Leg 13 Innsbruck to Courchevel

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Here is my account of this hairy flight from LOWI - Innsbruck to LFLJ - Courchevel. Hope you like what I have done but apologies for a fairly simple flight during daylight as I was afraid to tackle the landings during an evening flight. Enjoy.

Explains everything I think.

Fuelling at Innsbruck ready for a tortuous climb out.

Climbing out and up.

11.jpg

You have to make altitude fairly quickly in this valley.

13.jpg

On my way now.

15-1.jpg

Returning over LOWI after making my altitude.

16-1.jpg

Bye Bye Innsbruck.

12.jpg

Have to make it over that ridge.

18-1.jpg

Moon overhead is a real treat.

14-1.jpg

Now I'm on my way to Aosta, the views were brilliant.

113.jpg

Tuning in to Milan Air Traffic Control for approach to Aosta - LIMW

112.jpg

Here's a close-up showing that the Baton is safely on board.

17.jpg

On Finals now for Aosta and a well earned short break.

14.jpg

A little off to the left of centre but I'm just glad to be down.

15.jpg

A change of power now to make the hellish journey into Courchevel. Baton's on board and takeoff permissions granted.

16.jpg

Climbing out of Aosta - LIMW seems a little easier in this little baby.

18.jpg

Spectacular views yet again as I head off over towards Mont Blanc.

20.jpg

Bearing 236 for the VANAS waypoint.

19.jpg

Yippee - Courchevel in sight, but still a way to go yet and not on terra firma yet.

21.jpg

On Finals now for the up hill Courchevel. Who put an airport there??

22.jpg

The tower has it's eye on me coming in. Hopefully for a safe landing.

23.jpg

Slowing down now for a smooth touchdown.

24.jpg

Made it! The baton is now ready for departure.

26.jpg

Hope you enjoyed my very first attempt at a leg of the ATWC and I hope to do another in the future.

Cheers Guys

Regards

Thanks Reef for your comments and NO thanks. I have tried seveal landings in fixed wing at LFLJ with varying degrees of success. When I do manage to do it safely I will post some screen shots, until then thanks for the opportunity to do this flight.

Great shots Needles!

I migt not be around on Satarday to post due to revision for the Christmas tests. I'll send the 7-parter to Mut to post - currently about 300 pictures. So it'll be in two topics!

Don't blame you Needles for not attemping the landing in a fixed wing A/C!

Thanks for your comments guys.

Fighterpilot - I maxed out at 15000' then made my way through the colls. The Alt' on the first pic was my altitude from the Vanas waypoint to LFLJ.

Wisemanp - Spot on! Didn't think anyone would actually spot it. I was a little tongue in cheek eh! :thum:

Rob - Sorry for wussing out :yikes: on the fixed wing approach but will attempt it later and post some more pics. I am hoping to get FEX for xmas so I may wait til then, but thanks guys. I enjoyed it.

Hi Needles!

Fantastic debut into the challenge.

I liked the intro with the flight plan and preview shots, a unique feature.

Nice editing to add in the baton well done, splitting a flight up is becoming the norm, all the better for us!

Great scenery throughout, default FSX I assume?

I don't blame you for using the heli, safes bet looking at that slope

Good to have you on-board, and I'm please you enyjoed it and want more!

Cheers

PS I will have to update the departure board tomorrow :yikes:
