mutley 4,498
I would like to start an around the world marathon, who is interested in joining in? What I plan to do is kick off the challenge in the UK at my local EGHI and fly a leg GA to Gatwick in my Cirrus SR22 in FSX. I will post screenshots of my journey in this thread. Then I will put a tender out to fly the next leg. Then members should post a request to fly this leg and take the "baton" (once awarded) and fly short haul airliner or GA, VFR or IFR to a European destination. The winning bidder should fly the leg and post screenshots of their journey and award the next leg to the next bidder(s) etc. Once done someone else takes up the challenge etc etc. It would be good if the legs were no more than 500Nm and took an unusual route (maybe in an unusual or classic aircraft). We need to try and get in most continents. Obviously there will be some long haul flights needed across oceans. The flights can be in any FS and any aircraft. I will make my flight tomorrow morning 09.00 GMT with real world weather and will make a post here when I'm done. I hope we will get a lot of contributors, the more the merrier but I know we can complete this epic journey with the members we already have :eyebrow: Keep an eye on this thread and see you soon . Mrbobo 0
Hi Mut If you need any help on the Ocean crosses I would be happy to help! :eyebrow:
wisemanp 0
I'll fly to Samedan-St Moritz Airport- the highest 'Airport' in Europe- in eastern Switzerland. I would probably use a learjet as this is probably the biggest jet it takes! Also there would be nice screenshots over the alps
mutley 4,498
Thanks Phil, hopefully we can get a connecting flight from someone! I fancy flying to Lukla, now that is high!
Mrbobo 0
What ocean flights will there be?
mutley 4,498
What ocean flights will there be? That depends on the route Pete, there's going to be an Atlantic crossing at some time but we don't know what will happen except for the first leg I am flying tomorrow, geddit! Cheers
Mrbobo 0
When it gets to it would I be able to do it! :eyebrow:
mutley 4,498
ok! understood, you will have to keep an eye on the progress of the challenge and once a cross-ocean trip is needed put in a tender and hope it is awarded by the previous pilot :eyebrow: Thanks for your enthusiasm Pete. Cheers
JoeEllwood 0
Count me in! :eyebrow:
allardjd 1,853
What, exactly, would we be "tendering"?
mutley 4,498
What, exactly, would we be "tendering"? Well probably the most interesting choice of aircraft/route. It will be up to the previous pilot to decide who he/she wants to fly the next leg. Cheers,
allardjd 1,853
OK, I'd be willing to fly a US leg. I propose a leg ending at Meigs field in Chicago. The actual airport no longer exists, as the mayor, in a political play in the middle of the night several years ago had the field obstructed and essentially confiscated the airfield to turn into a park. It took a matter of several weeks for the trapped aircraft to get out after negotiating permission from the FAA to fly off the taxiways. So, the actual airport is no more, but still exists in FS9. It's a great setting on a piece of land that juts into Lake Michigan. Some of you may recall that earlier versions of FS actually started you at Meigs. I used to live right across the lake from there, about 40 miles as the seagull flys. I'll fly the Caravan, with real world weather, which can be a challenge in Chicago this time of year. dgor 0
Count me in too Mut. Should be great fun  Oh, and perhaps the adventure should start in a seperate thread, and leave this one for ideas, questions etc? Might just keep things neater.
mutley 4,498
Hey thanks! I remember from the very first Sub Logic version of flight simulator I had started from Meigs. Must be great living near the lakes.. I would imagine we will fly west to east so may take a little while to get to you. I would really like to have relatively short hops but please bear with us and join in wherever we are in the world, it doesn't have to be in your own country. Cheers
mutley 4,498
Count me in too Mut. Should be great fun  Oh, and perhaps the adventure should start in a seperate thread, and leave this one for ideas, questions etc? Might just keep things neater. You could be right Dave, I didn't know this thread would get so much interest so soon! Well I must be off, I've got to get up early in the morning to get my flight plan in! See you tomorrow
dgor 0
 It's because we're all up watching the eclipse Mut. See you tomorrow, happy flying mate.
Dambuster 0
 Ok, I'll just copy what I said in the JF forums... I'm ready to do EGKK-YSSY (or anywhere as far or less e.g. Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo etc...) with my 772LR in FS9... I'm not sure whether I can do this in real time... But generally it should be possible. Tell me if you're interested! Any long haul flight is fine with me, but consider an airport that can handle a 777.
mutley 4,498
Cheers Dammy  Like I said, keep up with the adventure and I'm sure an opportunity will arise for a long haul.. You don't have to do it real time but when posting it would be nice to think you did Cheers
Dambuster 0
I'm ready to do it anytime today... even short haul. Up tp you!
mutley 4,498
Ok, I've posted the first leg. Please make any comments on that post. We will keep this post as a sticky for any procedural questions. Cheers
mutley 4,498
Leg 2 has ben awarded to wisemanp who will be flying from Gatwick to Samedan in Switzerland. Look out for Phil's post in a new thread! Cheers
mutley 4,498
After Phil's flight to Switzerland I think we will lift the 500Nm limit as there are several members wishing to do longer haul. What I don't want to do is complete the challenge in 3 hops! I think that some flights could go inter-continental for example Europe to Africa where not much is gained in Longtitude, if you are tendering for the next flight please bear that in mind. If you have any comments or suggestions please post here. Thanks
dgor 0
Roger that Mut  Did you get my email by the way?
