Dambuster 0
I don't know whether it's of any help but, considering we won't be doing many stops in Asia, I suggest the following: someone will do another short flight to an acceptable airport (for heavies) such as Rome or Milano or Athens, then I am ready to start a pretty long one towards Johannesburg or Singapore the latter being more arranging for Mutley's plans. Anyway, you know what I fly and how far so if you need a long haul route to be done, don't hesitate, I'm there.
allardjd 1,853
Have you considered a route through eastern Europe and Russia, mabye dipping down into the Middle East and China just for interest, then across the Bering Straight into Alaska, across Canada or the northern US to, maybe Halifax, then across the pond? It's a viable alternative to the more southerly routes, but might not be as picturesque or interesting. I suspect eastern Russia is long on trees and terrain and short on most everything else. It does pretty much avoid long overwater legs, at least until reaching Halifax or Gander.
dgor 0
Hi, That sounds like a pretty good idea to me, although I've heard that there are very few airports in Eastern Russia. For that reason we may have to call in Dambuster or any other of the long-haul fans to get us from our last suitable airport in Russia to Seoul, Beijing or Tokyo. Dambuster 0
yep anytime... though FS doesn't have the Russian waypoints... I might have to use FS NAV.
Mrbobo 0
Yea give Dambuster the Russian one I will stay with my sea crossings!
mutley 4,497
I'm pleased this is now getting some debate The challenge is to get back to Blighty eventually even if it takes months with zig-zagging around the globe. I like the fact that it can be totally random and allowing all users to fly what ever aircraft they like. Don't forget we've got airliners, business jets, float planes, military, ultralights even gliders! I draw the line at BMW's and hovercraft though, It must fly more than a hundred feet off the ground. The space shuttle could do the whole trip in an hour but that's banned to! It would be great if a couple of members could do a multiplayer session for one of the legs and post a screenshot of thats. Let me know what you think.
Dambuster 0
OK, here's what I suggest: someone will have to do a short one again to a big hub lik Zurich or Vienna or Rome... Then if it's far enough I might do a flight to Dubai or depending to Singapore or Tokyo, it ain't a prob... then Mrbobo will do a flight from for example Singapore (one of the Asian hubs) to an airport in the US or even Honolulu... the other option is to go to Juhannesburg as a detour and go to Aussie then to Asia then to the US and back... I leave options. See what you make of this.
mutley 4,497
We need a volenteer to take on leg 4, a long haul flight from Malpensa - to..?? Any takers, post your tender in the "leg 3" post and if chosen make the flight and post your screenies in a new thread. Cheers, Mut
ben_davies247 0
Hey there guys :mrhappy: I was wondering if I could do a leg sometime for the tour, sounds like fun! And I haven't flown in a while. Look forward to hearing! Ben
mutley 4,497
Hi Ben, There's no reason you can't have a flight. What you need to do is follow the challenge and when a leg has been finished a request will go out for a pilot to take the baton to another destination of their choice. If there is more than one pilot wanting to do the next leg than the previous pilot will choose the next flight. Dave (dgor) is flying or has flown leg 4 and Joe Ellwood will be doing leg 5, but after that it's anyones! Cheers
dgor 0
Ben, Yes, once I've flown Milan - Palermo (for the second time!), there will be a 24-hour period during which tenders can be posted for the next leg. If there is more than one pilot wanting to do the next leg the previous pilot can make the decision based on which aircraft he thinks is best suited to the conditions he has experienced. PS: Moved this to merge with this topic so that we can keep all RTW questions in this sticky :-) Dave
B77W 0
Howdy! Can someone give me the link to were I can put in request to fly?
mutley 4,497
Hi Sam, You really just have to follow the adventure, at the moment we are not pre-booking flights although Joe Ellwood is flying leg 5. Once he has posted his shots he will ask for tenders to take the baton to the next location, this location and choice of aircraft will be up to you and he will award the next flight. So keep an eye on it to see if you are available at that time  Cheers
mutley 4,497
Well done to Chris on completing leg 10. We are now at Tel Aviv and I would like now to continue East. We have ear marked Mulletman to make a flight from LLBG but Fred advised he cannot make a flight until Saturday at the earliest. This is fine, a short break is no problem so long as Fred can commit to this flight on Saturday and can let me know as soon as possible. If not, we will be seeking a pilot to take on the baton from Tel Aviv. In future I will be controlling the challenge form this post so we all have a central reference point. If anyone is unsure on the next availability of a flight please post here and I will co-ordinate things. From here on in this post will be renamed the "Challenge Control Centre" or CCC or C3 for short  Cheers
mutley 4,497
Fred has mailed me as he was having the same problem as me with the forum although it looks to be fixed now! So check back at the weekend to see his flight.
mulletman 0
Fred has mailed me as he was having the same problem as me with the forum although it looks to be fixed now! It is indeed, thanks for that! Just to let you know that i have completed the flight to Mumbai/Bombay/VABB. "El Al 071 Heavy" lasted for just over 5 hours in the PSS 777-200LR, and took us right past one of our previous leg destinations, Dubai. Shots are to follow this evening, as soon as my photographer has developed his film. I would like to suggest the next leg goes to Kathmandu, as form there, someone can take it to Lukla, which will make a radical change from the international airports we have been seeing recently. But, its up to you guys in the end.
mutley 4,497
I just know this will be worth the wait Fred  As far as the next couple of legs go I was hoping someone would suggest Lukla as I have the scenery (as you do Fred) So the next leg (12) will be from Mumbai/Bombay/VABB to Kathmandu VNKT in Nepal we need a volunteer for this flight please. I will take on leg 13 :???: Kathmandu VNKT to Zia International VGZR Bangladesh VIA Lukla VNLK (VNL2 for Aerosoft addon) so I get to make this really scary landing then onto Zia another 303 miles, flight to be done in FS9 in an aircraft that probably shouldn't (couldn't) land at Lukla :???: Cheers
ben_davies247 0
As I said in the other post, I'll take on leg 12 :shrug_no:
mutley 4,497
Ben, Thanks for the offer, it's yours! Don't forget the flight is time has been pre arranged to be Mumbai/VABB to Kathmandu VNKT in Nepal in the aircraft of your choice. When done create a new post for leg 12. Good luck and thanks for your help. Cheers

mutley 4,497
Well done Dave for completing leg 15 and taking the baton from Lukla to Kolkata / Calcutta Airport, India (VECC). We can get anything out of here as we have a 11,899ft runway to play with so it's a chance for the senior pilots to join in. So if anyone fancies a trip please log your interest here. If there's nothing posted by 12.00 BST tomorrow Easter Monday I will take her on again (Don't forget it's double pay on a public holiday :mrhappy: ) Cheers
KaptainPhee 0
What are you guys thinking of the next route being, im seriously thinking about doing one and would like to know more, please let me know of any ideas!!!
mutley 4,497
Hi Phil, We would want someone to fly from Calcutta VECC to somewhere like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Japan, just so long as it's East of India. The choice of any of these or a suggestion of your own okayed by me or Dave would be fine. The aircraft again would be your choice maybe something we've not seen yet or any Heavy If you offer is accepted you will be notified so by me or Dave, you then make the flight and make a new post of your adventure. (Not forgetting the baton of course!) So what do you think, do you want to make a bid? Cheers
