Tim_A 997
Cool. Had nasty visions for a moment, of it all collapsing in a heap. Just scouted out leg 3. Good thing too, as it turned out I didn't have the scenery installed for Lady Elliot. Or at least it was installed, but not activated in FSX.
Tim_A 997
Did something go wrong again reporting leg 2? Again there's no time posted...
hurricanemk1c 195
Just before I fly Leg 9, where do I start/finish timing? Is it on take-off/landing, oroverhead/overhead like in the trial leg?
Tim_A 997
Take off to landing. If you have the recommended fTime gauge installed, you can simply read the results off it at the end of the flight.
allardjd 1,853
Just getting into this now for leg 6. Lots of reading to do to get the big picture but I have the time to devote to it now, having cleared the decks of some other nagging things. John
hurricanemk1c 195
Thanks for that Tim!
ddavid 149
Just heard from the GAAR organiser - seems that the email PIREPs have gone astray - again! But I've re-sent the info, so we're still in. @ Kieran - as Tim says, start timing at beginning of take-off roll and stop timing when you've landed and stopped. You can use a separate Timer, or just make a note of start and finish times (and subtract!!). @ John - thanks for doing the homework - the flight's the easy bit! BTW - Leg 7 is still up for grabs... Cheers - Dai.
hurricanemk1c 195
Total time for Leg 9 is 86.01 minutes flying at 140kts at 4500ft via low altitude airways
ddavid 149
Kieran - that time, for 313 nm, gives you an average speed of 218 knots!! Are you sure the time shouldn't be 140.01 minutes?!? Cheers - Dai.
ehunyadi 0
Flying 8 now... will have Pirep soon!!! Done. 83.29 minutes. Full pirep coming.
ddavid 149
Thanks. E.J. - looks like we're almost there... Cheers - Dai.
hurricanemk1c 195
I'm sure it's 86.01 minutes - but the flight planner only gave out 208-something nm - will check later to see if I've flown from the right place!
allardjd 1,853
Team Mates, I see our test flight time is already posted but thought I ought to fly the test anyway to see how it went. I did that tonight and logged 21:29 or 21.48 minutes, so pretty close to the 21.53 test flight time entered for the team. I'm flying the MS default DC-3 in FS9, but made a few additions to a pop-up panel for this project. I thought you might enjoy seeing it. Nary a vacuum tube in sight. Now I need to study up on the navigation details and figure out traffic patterns, etc. for Leg 6. John
ehunyadi 0
Posted my pirep. Nice panel, John!
allardjd 1,853
Quote Nice panel, John! Thanks, EJ. I make a custom pop-up panel for most of the AC I fly, for two primary reasons... There are certain add-on gauges I've become very happy with and like to have, e.g. the SALS gauge at top-left (gives a virtual localizer and glideslope indication for ANY runway in FS, simulating GPS technology) and the ice gauge (the little unlabeled rectangle at bottom center). Both are old friends and it makes me happy to have them. Also, I use the TrackIR in the VC. Even though seeing me chase a knob with the mouse while trying to hold my head perfectly still may be amusing to anyone watching me, it's very nice to have things that require adjustment in a pop-up on the second monitor, where they are stationary targets. Mouse pointer archery is no fun when the pucker meter is in the yellow. John
ddavid 149
Now I know why you've been quiet, John! Is this pop up panel using FS Panel Studio? Looks good - particularly as the default DC-3 is a bit lacking in the navigation department... Look forward to your PIREP for Leg 6! Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
Quote Is this pop up panel using FS Panel Studio? No, I do them manually now. I own Custom Panel Designer (Abacus) and learned a lot using it but I find that just building them by hand using FS and Notepad is no more difficult and gives me a little more control over how the panel.cfg edits are done. 2D panels and pop-ups are dead easy - I haven't tried anything in a VC yet but don't really see the need. Anything not present in the 3D can be put on a 2D pop-up quite easily. John
hurricanemk1c 195
Stupid FS - 100 mins into Leg 9 and it goes and crashes! Mumble, mumble, grumble.... That's a nice panel fit there John!

I smell a Pop-Up Panel Tutorial in the making!?! :th_smiles73: Commiserations, Kieran - my FSX is a bit unsteady at the moment, too - but thanks for persevering, Mate! Cheers - Dai.
