I was trying to stick to the planes that I already have! but I saw this one and thought it may be worth a look for $24 :secret: .

So here she is, the "Quest Kodiak" by lionheartcreations (added the link for people like me! who had never heard of this thing before ;))

It's designed to be a modern STOL aircraft, and the real life aircraft is built by Quest Aircraft Corporation in Sandpoint Idaho, I believe that you can buy a new one from them for a cool 1.6 million dollars :faint:

This is the cargo version in the yellow paint scheme, I had not even started the engine yet when I made this shot, just wanted to have a look around the outside first to see what the quality was like first.

Yes it defiantly is a "STOL" aircraft! very short take off, and all it wants to do is climb and climb when you keep the power on, on level flight it goes like a bat out of hell, very exciting if your at low level and have high detail scenery :dance3: .

fsx_2011_07_11_01_11_14_034.jpg

This is the Amphibian version in Red, I thought this would be harder to fly due to the drag from the floats, but it seems exactly the same a the tricycle landing gear model. The scenery here is the free Tasmania demo from Orbx.

Also comes in Black.

US Coast Guard livery

This one is in the Quest Aircraft factory livery.

One of the disappointing things is that you only get a 2D VC, it's ok but nowhere near as pretty as the Carenado stuff!.

Although I think the 2D VC is the main reason why the FPS are very good for this plane.

Another disappointment is that it only uses the sounds from the stock FS Cessna Caravan sound file, I could change it to something else, but would rather have the real thing TBH  .

Here's a real one "YIKES" :phew:

I know!, and I can't even make a landing like that in FS "LOL" :D

Cool ! Seems to me a Garmin1000.

What kind of motorization is it ? 600hP engine ?.

Perfect !. Max

Yes it's a Garmin 1000, :) .

The engine is a (Pratt and Whitney, PT6A-34) with a Takeoff Power of 750 hp

The real life aircraft specs are here http://questaircraft.com/kodiak/specs/?detail=36'>http://questaircraft.com/kodiak/specs/?detail=36

You may as well have a look at the Quest Aircraft Company web site as well http://questaircraft.com/ ;)

They also do a VLJ and a single prop something or other - both are great little aircraft - fast and fun to fly... and although not as "3D" as Carenado... the FPS is twice as good - and they come with a manual!!! Both, important feature for the majority of FSX users.

Lionheart are one of the unsung heroes of the sim world.

Someone should do a feature on them... Hurumpfff..... !!!!

A fantastic aircraft. Joe and I both own it and love it, although I don't fly it as much as I used to now that the Carenado C208 is available

Thanks Rob, I thought I had a Mutleys first on this one as I had never even heard of the Kodiak until I stumbled on it at one of the online flight sim stores on Sunday night. :D

I was looking for something to fly around the Great Lakes, with STOL capabilities! But I wanted a bit more speed than my Do-27 and much better brakes than my F33A Bonanza, I think that the Kodiak fits in here very well for all that, although it’s a larger aircraft than I had intended on getting.

PS: I agree with Gabey, anyone want to do a feature on the lionheart stuff? :pilotic:

Great shots and video! While watching the video, I thought they were going to land on that clear grassy area in the distance, but then they turn towards the mountain - I'm thinking: "Why are they flying towards the mountain? The airstrip is... oh wait, there's an even smaller one on the side of the mountain!" laugh.gif

Hi Graham

Yes we love the Kodiak in the early days of AirHauler we were missing a decent Cessna 208 Caravan so we purchased the Kodiak, it's great to see it come around again. I got it as a replacement for the default 208, that's before the Carenado 208 was released but I reckon the Kodiak is a fantastic model in it's own right, thanks for the heads up, we like sharing!

Cheers

Joe

Hi, thanks for the comments Guys.

Don’t suppose anybody knows how to open the front doors on the Kodiak? I can get the cargo door to open shift + E but just cant figure out how to get the front one to open  (not that its very important! But would be nice to know anyway ;) )

Have you tried Shift+E+2 or Shift+E+3?

Thanks John.

That didn't work for this aircraft, but it was worth a try.

Must be another key combination?, as there's nothing to pull in the cockpit either :( .

Hi Graham, essentially John is right.

kodiak2.jpg

Using the method described, however I have re-assigned by doors to my K button so push K to open the main cargo then K and 2 for the pilots door. There is a knack to it though, don't try to press the two buttons together, press K (E or whatever) then 2 very shortly after.

Cheers,

Joe

Nice shots, and a very interesting movie, I was wondering about landing too...

Me too, I have both the Kodiak and the C208, but I never touched the Kodiak after I bought the C208...still, fun to see one fly by!

Thanks for the reply Joe, still no joy even after I re-installed the AC :( .

this is what I'm getting. press shift + E and the cargo doors open, so that is working ok.

when I press shift + E + 2 the cargo doors close and one of the control panel mini screens pops up :( .

I must have some wrong in my "button/key settings? what should I have enabled to get the door's open?

Thanks again...Graham...

PS: I can see that the Carenado C208 has more or less replaced the Kodiak in most peoples hangers, but for my future reverence in case I ever what to get the 208, does it have the reverse prop/thrust (F2 key)option for landing like the Kodiak has?

BTW: I was going to do a shot of the cargo doors open to show the US relief food parcels in the back, for the "God Bless America" competition :cray::D , Oh well! back to the drawing board again I suppose  .

It's a nice shot though ;)

Graham,

I don't think you have anything set wrong but the combination of three buttons really makes it difficult to get the timing right. If you were to assign a new key then I think it will work better.

Cheers

Joe

EDIT Use my shot for the competition, it's bound to win !

One thing should be added to Joes tip. Before pressing 2 you should release both E and shift. Since you got a 2D panel popping up when you press the 2 key I'm guessing you're still holding down shift..

I could be wrong though...

Great shots by the way. I have been tempted to get that model, if only because it's one of few GA models I've seen with a full glass cockpit rather than the Carenado style steam guages....

I just saw a load of Lionheart products for sale at flightsimstore looks like most of them are 50% off.

You can get the Kodiak for less than $12, think thats a good price for this plane! :001_th_smiles89:

I payed $24 for mine two weeks ago :gaah: (mind you, I always was lucky like that!)

EDIT: LOOKS LIKE THE SALE IS OVER THIS MORNING, "MUST HAVE BEEN A ONE DAY ONLY SALE"
