Wing struts above the wing have to be big - they're in compression rather than tension and have to be beefy enough to not buckle. Wings struts below the wing are in tension and the load-bearing elemen

But can it lay an egg?   I've seen photos of that one before but don't know what it is or where it's based.  Such poor taste in flying objects is more commonly seen in the hot air balloon ge

What a cock up.

Not very neatly but yes I did block out the background of the picture. I did not want the background to help identify the aircraft pic. Is this Ok to do? Nothing that is part of the aircraft has been taken away or hidden. When I expand the pic again you might see where I edited out some of the markings on the fuselage only.

There are so many aircraft with the canopy layout like that, Many WW2 aircraft were retro fitted with clear view canopies in the field to give a frame free appearance. Are there any distinguishing features that are unique to this aircraft?

I don't see any problem cropping out background or fuzzing up certain things.

Can't figure out that diagonal feature that appears to be inside the cockpit - dead horizontal in the image but at an angle to the aircraft axis. Reflection, or someting actually there...?

:D Hey, even a wild guess will sometimes hit the mark.

Hint: This is not a plane that ever went into production as far as I know so I would put it in the experimental category.

Not a Spitfire, is it? Wild guess...

:dance3: Well done Alan, not an easy one. Figured that nose would help give it away. The Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1 to be exact. There were a couple of more markings under the canopy but I edited them out and never kept the original pic, add to that I forgot where I found the original so this is all I have. Sorry 'bout that. See here for info on the aircraft from Wikipedia.
