OK, then.  It's the Douglas DC-4E.

Well done Andrew, Thats exactly what it is, the DC-4E. It bore little resemblance to the later aircraft of the same name. It was a one off, sold to the Japanese who reverse engineered it into the Nakajima G5N Shinzan Bomber.

After March mentioned it I went searching again and found it - somehow I missed it originally. Next time I will do a more thorough search using the search engine, which is what I should have done in the first instance.

Anyway, there is plenty more to choose from.

I haven't gone away...I have just had an extremely busy 36 hrs...now....back to this aircraft...the high wing monoplane design is similar to many French Morane-Saulnier designs of the period...but I don't think it is an MS design...more research required I think... :rolleyes:
