dodgy-alan 1,587
Since no one seems to be responding I'll post a new one. Have a go with this curious beast.
J G 927
It looks like a toy, Is that the stand I can see poking out from under the main undercarriage?
Quickmarch 488
I can't post, but I know what this is - big brother to the T--------
dodgy-alan 1,587
Looks like you could be on the money John Marchant. it was a mock up JG. It never made it into production, the clues are there though.
dodgy-alan 1,587
No-one want to have a go at this one then? There are clues in the design.
allardjd 1,853
Looks like the result of a collision between a B-N Trislander and a Transall. John
Quickmarch 488
Excellent comparison. PS: Hint - NACA23015
J G 927
This has gone a bit off the ball lately so I thought I would have another look at it. I still haven't a clue, but it kind of reminds me of the aircraft that is about to have an engine catch fire with totally non scale flames and just before the TV shouts "THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!" at you..
dodgy-alan 1,587
Not Thunderbirds John, This was built by the same company that had a similar configuration on a smaller but more successful aircraft.
Quickmarch 488
You need to research the aircraft (designs) that used the foil I mentioned above.
brett 2,316
That would be too easy March.

dodgy-alan 1,587
No-one want to name this bird yet?
Quickmarch 488
I'm not able to access my computer for at least two weeks.

dodgy-alan 1,587
It has a smaller and much more widely known little brother with the same cofiguration.

Quickmarch 488
I'm going to kill this Canary,Alan. I believe it is the Fairey Britten-Norman BN-4. Congratulations on stumping the troops with this one. Please allow me a few days to come up with something. I'm just back from 2-1/2 months in Mexico and still sorting the laundry, etc. Here's the reference to the NACA foil: http://m-selig.ae.illinois.edu/ads/aircraft.html- Britten-Norman Mainlander NACA 23015 See: http://edwardpinnegar.co.uk/642/- partway down the page there is an artists concept and a line drawing of this aircraft - it never made it to production. Duplication of the artist's concept along with a much better description, here: http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1972/1972%20-%203316.html As you will find, there is very little information available on this a/c. I only know about it as I had previously been curious about the design (specifically, the tail-mounted engine). It was quite a surprise to see the picture of model posted here.
brett 2,316
Well done John, you deserved the win.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Yep , it's the BN Mainlander. Sadly it was never built.
dodgy-alan 1,587
It sure was a curious looking beast. Here are the pics I found of it whilst researching the aircraft. Two of them are referred to in the links above. The other is the original pic I used for the subject.
Quickmarch 488
That's about as good as it gets for this airplane. Understand my dilemma. I'm trying to find something as esoteric as Alans' last contribution. I'm also trying to get plugged back in to a (somewhat) competitive sailing challenge where I (we) have to meet another Yacht Club on the field of battle to determine the next year's trophy holder. This may not seem to be important to the flight sim community, but it is pretty big stuff to my local sailing community. Wish me luck! I'll get to work on the strange aircraft program next week. if that doesn't work for MH, then please find someone else to make the next contribution.
allardjd 1,853
@ March - try your best to find one that they built at least one of, even if it never flew.... This "concept" stuff that never got far off the back of the original napkin is pretty tough. John
brett 2,316
March, may you be barnacle free and the winds always in your favor. Good luck and good skill.
