Wing struts above the wing have to be big - they're in compression rather than tension and have to be beefy enough to not buckle. Wings struts below the wing are in tension and the load-bearing elemen

But can it lay an egg?   I've seen photos of that one before but don't know what it is or where it's based.  Such poor taste in flying objects is more commonly seen in the hot air balloon ge

What a cock up.

John's guess was closer than what I had found to that point, there was still little things that not quite right on the Arado AR-68. I then did a short search for like type aircraft and came up with the very sharp looking Fantomé. Probably never would have found it without the push from John, :thanks:buddy.

Give me a little time to come up with one, I'll be back.

I knew the Arado wasn't a perfect match but there was a list of many prototypes, mods and variants (the Germans loved doing that) and only photos of a few so I thought it might be one of the ones not pictured  It is close, at least the parts pictured in Alan's first posting.

Congrats to Brett.  Given what's on my plate at the moment, I'm just as happy not to have to come up with a new one.

Apologies in advance - pirated photo

Bartini Beriev VVA-14

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartini_Beriev_VVA-14

I thought it was this at first but then thought not.  The VVA-14 was a water craft, the aircraft in the picture has undercarriage and appears to have no floats. It doesn't seem to have the engines at the front either.  Hence my comment "it looks like it should be a Beriev".

On closer inspection, I think it is a VVA-14 and the floats are there, but the photo is a bit over exposed and they don't stand out from the main fuselage, and probably mask the front engines.

Good job guys. You should have stuck with your gut feeling John, you were soooo close, but I have to give it to March for giving the complete answer. It is a crazy looking aircraft, looks like it could be from a Star Wars film. :D Over to you John(the other John ;) )......

Hmmm.... General aviation... they all look the same to me.  If it's not military then it hard  for me. Quite distinctive cockpit though.

I would guess a light jet of some sort, the cockpit looks pressurized.
