It would have been too light for a fighter, remember the stresses for a straight line racing aircraft are completely different to that of a fighter. It was made to be a lightweight aircraft. By the time armour and guns had been added to it the advantage would have been lost. The cockpit would be very vulnerable as well. Rearward vision would be useless and the propshaft running through the middle would do some serious damage it it was hit and became unstable. This debate regarding this aircraft has been going on on a Facebook thread for some time.

Oops! Am I in trouble, then?

 

My earlier hint was supplied in the hope that others might find the aircraft. I knew what it was immediately and was hoping to keep the thread alive without jumping on it.

 

If the lot of you would like me to supply a new aircraft, I'll do so. Please let me know if that's where we want to go.
