stu7708 244 Posted April 10, 2012 Report Share Posted April 10, 2012 As some of you have heard earlier me and my family moved in to a house just before Christmas, and I figured I'd show of what we spent our hard earned money on... Most of the photos are about a month old, but the last four where taken over the weekend. So here's the main reason I can't afford visiting Weston this year.. Front porch and entrance at sunset The rather big (120m2) back porch with the small pond on the left The outhouse with a small shed for storing the fire wood The back porch from a different angle A frost ridden bush just beside the porch The back yard, with the porch once more. The master bedroom on the left, big living room on the right and the kitchen behind the door in the middle. A small green house was included in the purchase as was this small pool heated with fire wood. The chimeny was in winter storage when I took this, but it's in place now... And the surounding area is rather rural... On to the shots I took this weekend. Submerged in the pond is a small pump that supplies water to a small "water fall" that runs down the log from the porch back into the pond. Having the pump on over night with the temperature dropping below freezing created some strange effects in the water.. one other contributing reason is that the log leaks rather badly, so much of the water never makes it back to the pond..... The leakage led to these strange ice formations close to where the water goes back into the pond This might be one of the coolest photo's I've ever taken.... And to finish of here's an Airbus of some sort departing ESSA, passing above us at about 2000 feet. Sorry for the lack of focus here, working with a great deal of zoom with out a tripod isn't one of my stronge sides.. Hope you guys enjoyed this little peak into my home. stu7708 244 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 10, 2012 Thanks When I took these photos most of the withe stuff had already melted away actually.. over new year and through january we had about 2 dm of it Unfortunatly the snow is hard to avoid up here in the northern parts, but I could do without it too. It was indeed an A320, but a A320-214. Not sure what the difference between a 212 and a 214 is though... Reg EC-JTR heading for El Prat... Link to post Share on other sites

We are very happy to have found this property and that it it was within our budget, and are enjoying living there alot (despite the snow over the winter)... and while it's situated in the countryside we only have about 10 km to the nearest town, so we aren't totaly cut of from reality Right now we are just waiting to see what pops up in the garden... what we do know is that there's more Thyme than we ever will be able to use for cooking growing all over the place And yes Joe, it is indeed a flag pole. No flag in it at the moment though, just a small pennon. Or actually nothing when I come to think of it, the pennon is lying on the kitchen table for some much needed repairs. But trust me, it was way to cold for it start melting when I took it... almost frooze my fingers of snapping it... The running water is coming from the pump pushing out water at the other end of the log... and the leakage of the pump led to the pond beeing almost drained of water the next morning. Need to fix a new log before we turn the pump back on.... Link to post Share on other sites
brett 2,310 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Share Posted April 11, 2012 If you have fish in the pond it is a good idea to turn the waterfall off in the winter and use an aerator instead. I use one made for inside fish tanks and just put a bucket over it for protection(allow some air intake. A farm trough heater works well too. Your new place is a beauty. Looks like a nice relaxing area to put your feet up. Folks thought I was nuts to buy a place so far from town(about same as yours) but I love it, nice and quite. New Years Eve was a very good example of why we wanted out of the urban areas. Where we used to live kids were shooting fire works from a few weeks before christmas and continued through most of january, if not in to february... this year, our two neigbouring families was out in the fields for 30 minutes around midnight, and that was it... a big relief... The only thing I hadn't counted on was the departing airplanes heading straight over us.. I really thought they would be further north when departing on runway 01L/R.. Luckily it's just the smaller ones (737:s and A320 mostly) that passes over us, larger things ends up further north, and the Turbo Props tend to end up south of us. As for fish in the pond, there are none and I doubt we will get any, for two reasons... 1. On a cold winter as the one we just had I do think the pond is more or less frozen solid, most of it is only a few feet deep from what I can judge. 2. With a soon to be two year old running around the yard we are trying to make sure he doesn't fall in to the pond, and adding things that will make it even more interesting to go close to the pond seems like a bad idea Link to post Share on other sites

With a soon to be two year old running around the yard we are trying to make sure he doesn't fall in to the pond, and adding things that will make it even more interesting to go close to the pond seems like a bad idea Ah! good idea! even though I was 4 years old I can still rember getting close to the pond in our old house that had fish in it, just to play with them and see what was in there! You may want to invest in a small low fence to put around the pond, thats what my dad did to keep me (and the cat) out of the pond. Link to post Share on other sites

We are looking at covering the pond with some sort of metal mesh that still is open enough to let sunlight through for the water plants. At least that's the idea at the moment.
