Is it at all possible to connect my laptop to my PC so that while I am flying in FSX, I could follow my track on my laptop in Google Earth? At the moment I am using Google Earth with all my FTX ORBX areas to find airfields + places of interest to fly too and to plot a course and distance,which I find is a very useful tool. rob16584 42 Posted July 1, 2012 Report Share Posted July 1, 2012 There are a few few freeway utilities that let you connect fsx and google earth, the ones I've used have been tricky to get working correctly for some reason but have been ok after they are set up (other than the performance hit). mike H 456 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Share Posted July 3, 2012 Hi have download Plan-G on my laptop and it looks great,then connected laptop to my PC via a Ethenet lead. Started up FSX ,but it does not connect. This is the message l got Unable to connect to Flt. Sim. (is FS running?) please see the log for more details. Q. where do i find the log ? can not see it anywhere. I did set it up to run as administrator. My laptop runs on Win.7 and my Pc on XP would that be the problem. Link to post Share on other sites

It can be done, but as I remeber from way back you need to set the IP and Subnet Mask manually, and for things to really work well I guess you'll also need a DNS-server on the PC.. but prehaps the "Internet sharing" function in Windows can sort it out today so you get hold of the ISPs DHCP and DNS that way. I also know that back in the 90's you needed a special cabel to establish an Ethernet connection directly between two computers without the use of a Hub/Switch/Router. Something about the pairs beeing twisted in the cable so the cables won't connect to the right place in both sockets.. but that might also be sorted out today, most Hubs and Switches can handle both types of Ethernet Cables and have been able to do so for quite a while. So I guess that technology could have been ported over to the computers too... Link to post Share on other sites
Tim_A 997 Posted July 4, 2012 Report Share Posted July 4, 2012 Yes, you wold need a crossover cable (TX <--> RX instead of TX <--> TX ) if you were to plug directly from one to the other. Normally the crossover happens inside the hub/switch/router. I think there's a service running in Windows that handles IPv4 local address allocations in a DHCP-like way (unless you've disabled it), or you could use IPv6, which has a unique link-local address tied to the hardware. stu7708 244 Posted July 5, 2012 Report Share Posted July 5, 2012 That's not what you need. That IP and user information is what you need to change the settings in the Router. From what I've understood you need the IP for your Desktop PC since that is where your laptop needs to connect to for Plan-G to communicate with FSX...
