Detour (Dirt 3)

Recommended Posts

I had a bit of a detour on the way to work this morning :D

This was my first go in Dirt 3 (As you can tell!)

Looks FAB over 3 screens, trouble is about 6 seconds of video = 1Gb! so this one is single screen, FRAPS as ever.

It's great for a stress reliever, now back to aviation :pilotic:

Looked pretty good to me, I'm usually all over the place when I try..

Do you have a steering wheel, or do you use the yoke??

Just one question though.. why not use the built in upload to youtube function instead of FRAPS??

HI Micke,

I have a racing wheel from when I used to play Formula 1 but Dirt 3 is far more exciting. With a stick you will weave like a snake!.

I will try the YouTube upload button, I was just a bit wary. I wonder if it compresses the file? The FRAPs file was over 4Gb then ended up at 108Mb in wmv format after rendering it in Sony Vegas.

It will most defiantly compress it. Or rather, it won't be as big to start with...

It's the FRAPS file that's unusually large for a video file..

From the FRAPS FAQ

Why is the AVI movie generated by Fraps so big? How can I reduce the size?

The filesize is big because there isnt enough time to encode the movie while the game is running. The movie frames are slightly compressed, but still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions. After you have finished capturing you can convert the clips into a compressed format using a video editing program. Probably the easiest one to use is Windows Movie Maker which is included free as part of Windows Live Essentials. It allows you to easily edit your clips and add text and other effects to your film. The end result will also be compressed into the Windows Media Video (WMV) format which can be played back in most media players.

I've just tried the YouTube option and it looks like you can only capture highlights rather than the whole circuit.

To bad, but I guess there's got to be a downside to such an easy option....

Bad case of under-steer, there, Joe - I should infalte those front tyres to 35 psi. And, for Pete's Sake, when the driver wants a biscuit, give him one! :thum:

BTW, did you ever get out of second...

Mmmmeeeeeiiiiaaaaaooooowwww - Dai.
