Orbx FTX Central ?

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I understand if I'm going to fly in Australia or New Zealand I need to ahve "Oceania" selected, same as if I'm going to fly in the PNW I need to have "North America" selected in the FTX Central program.

My question is, if I'm going to fly in the US, say in Texas does it matter if I have Default, Oceania, or North America selected? Will it affect performance?

I'm not understanding the reason to have "Default". Does selecting North America when not flying in the PNW areas of the US hurt/change my sceneries or performance?

Thanks.

Select the region you want to fly in. Failure to do so will mean you are likely to miss loading Library Objects for that area. Only select Default if you want to fly outside ORBX area(saves loading all the files). Or if you want to install some Non Orbx Scenery. Hope that helps.

it is one of the shortcomings of the ftx system. Now if you want to fly say in vatsim or whatever from europe to the US you have to come out of fsx which was fired up in the europe scenery and restart it with the US scenery, then if you are flying to aus restart it again with fsx aus scenery.

seems a bit of a palavar to me but this is ftx proposes

I agree with the above, if you can, always select default FSX/P3D if you are flying in an area not covered by FTX.

My feeling is that FTX is great for local VFR but no good for trans-continental. Apparently they can not just have an FTX on/ off switch which would help when flying long distance.

Another thing to mention is that Orbx uses different tree objects for the different regions, and this affects all the trees within FSX. For example, I will see different trees around the world when I select North America as opposed to Australia/Oceania (I personally prefer the North American trees ^_^).

Ok, thank you gents for the replies. I will set to Default with not in Orbx areas, i.e. Texas, Florida, etc...I assume though, if I'm departing a non-Orbx scenery but arriving in an area covered (i.e. flying into Portland) from say Denver then I should have it on, correct?

Thanks again.

Hi Guys, I have been thinking along the same lines about FTX. Between you, you have answered some of my concerns about using the control centre thanks.

I would like to have FTX EU England, but as I already have FSX JF Photo scenery for the UK along with some demo's of UK2000 airports and other freeware airfields such as Duxford.

Once I have EU up and running and then click on default in FTX control will it go back to my JF Photo scenery plus my airfields or go right back to the original FSX default scenery ?

If the latter is the case, that would put me off buying EU England.

As l already have alot of Orbx FTX scenery/airfields which l use most of the time it would be great to add EU to my library.

I'm not 100% but I'm assuming it should load what you normally have without Orbx. If I switch mine back to "default" and fly in/around my Fly Tampa scenery (i.e. St Maarten) my Fly Tampa scenery shows up like normal.

I assume the only way to make FSX go back to the real default is to go into your scenery library and un-check the add-on sceneries you no longer want to load.

If it helps guys, I have Ultimate Terrain USA running with the FTX NW regions at the same time and I haven't noticed any conflict.

If I am flying up in WA or OR I get the FTX scenery and airports installed. When flying in Florida I get the UT and other addon airport I havr like KOCF.

Hi Mike

Someone interested sent me a reply to your post..

Inform mike H that if he goes to default after OrbX UK install, his JF photo and airports will be fine If he enables OrbX the photo will override and he won't see the Orbx or UK2000 airports for that matter. To see OrbX and its airports you have to disable the photo. To see Orb X and UK2000 airports , you have to disable the photo and put the airports higher than OrbX in the library.

I don't know about the US but if you have Orbx (not the UK) enabled and use photo with treescapes AND Shawbury Fields, the trees of Shawbury fields area don't show, rest of country fine. It's something to do with the autogen (possibly the Orbx trees). You have to be careful on installation. The same can apply in other areas of the world, i.e if you have any Orbx area enabled, with especially with "use Orbx trees" then anomalies can be created where default or add-on autogen in the main FSX folders is overwritten because of the enabled Orbx scenery.

Finding no trees in mid-wales suddenly is disconcerting .

Some useful info there Mike, I hope it helps.
