RIAT shows off some of the worlds best pilots, and it proves that even older designs can still deliver spectacular shows. I've still not managed to get there, ( The last RIAT I attended was at the now closed Greenham Common!) but Nigel Woolley posts plenty of vids on YouTube. A thing I do tend to notice is that a lot of American built aircraft such as the F-16 and F-18 seem to be more "wrung out" by European crews than the US ones. One gets the impression that American displays are slightly more reserved. This could be due to the fact that both Switzerland and Finland are somewhat mountain

Aerial Minesweeper During World War II

Although of course aluminium isn't magnetic. I can imagine doing that job in one of those would be somewhat buttock clenching as they were rather vulnerable when our fighters were about. -

Aerial Minesweeper During World War II
dodgy-alan replied to allardjd's topic in Real World Aviation
Both Us and the Germans used a similar system. The aircraft carried a huge magnetic ring underneath which was used to detonate mines. We used Wellingtons and Whitleys whilst the Germans used a variety of aircraft, often HE-111s and BV-138s although JU-52s were also used in some areas. -
SPG.... a notorious Metropolitan Police section in the 80s , they'd drive round London in their armoured vans and if you got picked up by them you generally got a good kicking before you got anywhere near a police custody unit, especially if you were someone of colour! After a lot of complaints they were disbanded.

MS Announce New Flight Sim for 2020 Release
dodgy-alan replied to allardjd's topic in Mutley's Hangar News and Announcements
I don't think I'll be investing in yet another ruddy Sim. It's taken me this long to get FSX working acceptably! I spent a small fortune on FS9, and then subsequently on FSX. I rarely use the sim these days, (hence my drop off in screenshots) so will not be paying out more dosh in the foreseeable future. Looks good though. -
Great captures, love that second shot, great lighting.

Love that livery, she looks stunning.

Certainly a close encounter. Perhaps it was being flown by an FSX pilot who does things like this!

A friend of mine lives out there, His sister has a farm in the middle of the country on the edge of a small village. Nearest airport is Sofia in the next country and 3 hours drive away. He loves it, he retired out there a few years ago and is enjoying life. It's dirt cheap and the healthcare is really good. He just pays about £20 a year for the service. He's well away from all the tourist spots so never any problems. He has a really comfortable life out there.
