Friday 25th December Merry Christmas! Also, limited construction has begun on the ledge of which all modules will rest on. However, I can't do much work over the Christmas Period as I must see to certain commitments. Thanks, and Merry Christmas again! Jack  -

Boeing 767 Pedestal Project

Monday 21st December 2009 The Base Shell has been completed! I still need to add a bit of paint, but the whole Shell has been done! Next job, after painting everything, is to add a little ledge all over the Pedestal inside (that's what most of those internal support bars are for), so that Modules (such as the CDU, Transponder etc) can be easily mounted onto the top of the Pedestal. I should finished paining the whole thing soon, then I'll start work on that ledge. Thanks very mcuh for all your support guys, and here is a whole load of pictures to feast your eyes on! Thanks ve -

Yes it has! The Base Shell is almost fully completed, just one final remaining side to attatch. But I've also got the re-paint part of it as I applied some filler over the top of some paint, so unless I want a big white splodge over my Pedestal I better re-paint it! I've uploaded the photos now, please excuse the fact that they're not properly cropped, but I don't know how to cut them out perfectly (is there a way in paint?). Jack -

Saturday 19th December 2009 Almost full Base Sheel finished. Alot of internal support bars have been aded to give strength and to also give me something to attatch the last remaining side to. Anyway, below are the photos as of 20/12/09, enjoy! I hope that gives you the jist of the current status! More work should be done today, hopefully attatching that final side! Jack -

Tuesday 15th December 2009 Full Pedestal Base Unit nears construction. I've fully completed the bottom half and part of the top half (the area with the slope upwards, containing the CDU). I've held back on photos to ensure you guys get a good surprise this weekend. Stay tuned... -

Saturday 12th December 2009 Spent 5 hours on the Pedestal today. Got the out-slopes completed on both sides completed with internal support brackets. Hopefully, the final part of the Base Shell will begin tomorrow. No photos today as the paint on the new panels are still drying. Photos will follow tomorrow. -

Thanks very much Joe! I do certainly acknowledge that it won't take a few minutes, and cutting corners would probably ruin everything, so I'll try my darnest to do everything as best I can. Thanks! Jack -

Thanks very much Ed. I would think the whole thing would be finished (with Avionics, full construction, backlighting) in just over a year. However, I think construction of the Pedestal itself (without Avionics) will take a couple more months. -

Saturday 5th December 2009 "Avionics Section" added to first post to detail which Avionics I'll be using on the Pedestal. I've fully, fully completed the bottom section, adding internal strength bars and also the rails for the "Ledge", of which a panel will rest on containing the Avionics (what a mouthful!). I've also re-sealed the screws with special sealant, however they'll have to be re-panted brown, probably tomorrow. Thankfully, I've recovered from Swine Flu and progress with the Pedestal should be back on track within the next week or so! Pictures below are of progress made today: -

Yes, my hand was shaking like mad during the manual cropping, but hopefully it gives you an idea. I don't know how to cut out in straight lines. -

Saturday 28th November 2009 Managed to get ALOT done today! The back end of the Pedestal has been completely constructed! I've also started to add internal support bars for extra strength, these will be completed tomorrow! Below are photos of the Pedestal as of 28/11/09: (PLEASE NOTE: You'll notice these photos have a "jagged" cut out. This is not the Pedestal, this is my cutting it out badly in paint (yes my hand was very shaky )! Just imagine all the edges are straight, they are in real life, just these photos are badly cut out, thanks): Thanks very much for viewing, hopefully mo -

Haha ! I think I could open up a little Menagerie then ! Anyway, should get alot done today. Hopefully I'll be able to completely finished the back part (up to the part where it starts to slant outwards). From there on it gets tricky as the 4 degree slope upwards towards the top of the CDU, I'll have to really think that part out. Anyway, thanks for your continued support! Jack  -

Friday 27th November 2009 Securely fixed rear side panel to Pedestal Base. It's a very strong bond, for durability and quality. Panel was made of MDF and painted a Pedestal Brown. Pictures: Thanks for viewing guys! Rest assured tomorrow the remaining two side panels for the back of the Pedestal will be installed. Thanks very much, Jack -

Heya Magic Man, thanks for the in-depth reply. Regarding weight, it is very heavy but that gives it a definitive nice feel. If it was light and cheap I don't think I'd be so happy, but the heavy weight really is nice . Regarding sealing, I always re-coat with sealant over holes I've drilled etc, then leave to dry for an appropriate amount of time. Anyway, I'll start tonight's Pedestal Workshift soon, expect the usual blog post! Cheers, Jack -
