Lets see now... Biggin to Stornoway was 475nm Stornoway to Keflavik was 580nm Keflavik to Narsarsuaq was 650nm And the next leg to Gander will be 800nm, and I'm expecting it to take around 3 hours. I have something else to do tonight, so I'll probably fly it tomorrow. In practical terms, 800nm is about the limit of the Mustang, with IFR reserves and a headwind. Normally on this leg I'd go to Goose Bay or Iqaluit, both of which are shorter. But I fancied going somewhere I hadn't been before!

A slight whoops on leg 2, when I discovered I left the camera in my bag, which got stowed in the forward baggage area, which is only accessible from outside the plane... (i.e. I forgot to load the screenshot app ) So here we are about to depart Keflavik for Greenland... Someone's graffiti'd the plane, but I'm sure it'll wash off... Nicely positioned in the cruise Follow the pink line! Coasting in over Greenland Late descent, field in sight I'm going to overfly the approach, for the NDB procedure onto runway 07 No pics of the approach, since I was too busy, but here

Six Browning .303 machine guns were recovered from a wrecked Spitfire which crashed into an Irish peat bog in 1941. Despite spending 70 years buried in the Donegal bog, the guns were able to be cleaned up and made to fire... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15652440

Turbine engines are much slower to react to changes in power than piston engines, so you need to anticipate rather than react. What in pilot-speak is known as "staying ahead of the aircraft". But the fundamentals of flight are exactly the same, i.e. Power + Attitude = Performance. Just be aware that it takes a jet aircraft (or a turboprop - only real difference is that the prop blades are on the outside) much longer to settle down, and so you must not 'chase the dials' so to speak, otherwise you'll end up with PIO ('Pilot Induced Oscillation'), and that's considered A Bad Thing by the G&T

So today i picked up my new 'stang from Biggin Hill, and I'm off for my hols... Winter in the Bahamas. Yum! (Must visit John on my way through Floridia...) Leaving Biggin An assortment of in-flight pics My first stop for the night: Stornoway. The Western Isles might not be an obvious staging post for the North Atlantic, but it cuts around 100 miles off the first crossing, which could save a late swim if the winds are badly against us. [Memo to self: Make sure you reactivate the main FS window before taking pictures! All my shots of the approach were of just the autopilot popup

I've just got the F1 Citation Mustang, and it's very nice. It's a good transitional aircraft for jet flying, since it has a G1000 as the main panel and is certified for single pilot ops. Flying it is actually very similar to the F1 T182T, which I reviewed here a week or two ago, but with a bit more sophistication - the autopilot is mounted on the glare shield 'airliner style', and there's an FMS style keypad for flight plan entry (although, as with the 182, it will take a standard FSX format flight plan). The aircraft though is a bit of a frame rate hog, and does' feel quite so polished as th

Ok, here's one: The runway that runs in front of the apron & terminal is disused (RW it's 'Parking: Mil'), so you have a rather long taxi to/from the active runway!

To be fair, I've just finished planning a month-long event in the Caribbean & Bahamas, and it just had that "tropical island" look to it. Plus that hook-shaped bay is very distinctive. It didn't take lot of looking. (Also... if you look closely at Joe's approach chart, it includes the ident of the NDB! )

Shouldn't be a problem. In fact, adding an extra drive can improve performance (slightly), since it will operate in parallel with your other drive. Note though that if you are using Orbx scenery, it must live within the FSX folder structure. If you were running Windows 7 that wouldn't be a problem, since you could map the new drive to live inside FSX (it doesn't need to be a letter - D: E: etc- any more). But I don't think that option is available to you in XP. BTW, I removed your duplicate post

Wars have been started for less (Have you seen Horizon's latest faux pas? Not only can't they tell East from West, but they have referred to Ireland as "A stunning and un-spoilt area of the UK". Ahem.)

UTX I've addressed in another thread. If you're looking at photo scenery, personally I think Horizon's GenXv2 knocks the JF package into a cocked hat, and is far more extensive. But as the BBC would say, 'other scenery packages are available'... Reason I didn't mention them though is that, at an early stage of the game, when you're concentrating more on figuring out how to fly the plane, I think having nice origin and destination airfields is more useful than the stuff in between. It's kind of like a reward I know from experience, the sight of a lonely FS default runway with no other featur

Couple of REX V2 (FSX) Questions
Tim_A replied to TapA321's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
UTX I heartily recommend. It doesn't affect the textures per se, but it does wonders for coastlines, roads, rivers, railways etc, and has a built in landclass that better defines how the land is used (i.e. where the towns are, what areas are forests, scrubland, arable crops etc). It comes from Flight1, which means that you get a 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee. If you decide to go for photo real at a later date, UTX's 3d night lighting will still show through (often better than the texture lighting supplied by the photo guys), and because it is so vast (i.e. the whole of Europe) -
Hi Jim and welcome. If you're flying mainly around the UK, you might like to check out the VFR Airfields series from http://www.uk2000scenery.com/ It covers pretty much every airfield in England & Wales. It's payware (but it works out at around 25-30p per airfield) and there are also free demos of selected airfields that you can try before you buy. Makes a huge difference if all you have seen is the desolation of default FSX...
