ddavid 149
Venice - Tessera (LIPZ) To Ajaccio - Campo Dell'Oro (LFKJ) Welcome, Fellow Hangarians, once again - today we travel from misty Venice to the magical Isle of Corsica. From a city dredged from the marshes to a citadel chisseled from granite. From Italy to France, yes, really - France, remember, Ajaccio is the birthplace of one Napoleon Bonaparte....... We travel in the company of a recently qualified commercial pilot, who is starting a career with an old established European air-cargo company - Vorona Aviation. Edward Valentine, who prefers to be called 'Eddie' is waiting at the main airport information desk.... Dottor Valentino? A man in his mid-forties, with sunburnt features and eyes hidden behind aviator sun-glasses, addresses Eddie. Valentine - Eddie Valentine. comes the reply, and the two shake hands. I am Cesare, from Aernova - I take you to Nicello - follow, prego! and Cesare leads Eddie across the concourse towards the side exits leading to the maintenance area. They walk between buildings towards the vaporetti piers and soon they are standing next to an Aerospatiale AS-350 Ecureuil helicopter: Eddie stows his gear and straps himself into the left hand seat. Cesare busies himself with pre-flight checks. Through his head-phones, Eddie listens to the ATC chatter, acclimatising himself to the different accents.... You O.K.? asks Cesare I take you the long way round - you can see my beautiful city - is perfect weather today, the sun drive off the mist - you will see everything! Even with the headphones close to his ears, Eddie is deafened by the noise of the helicopter's engine, as it lifts up into the air and traverses the airport: Here - Ponte della Libert
allardjd 1,853
:good Dai, Very, very nice. I loved the dialogue and it's hard to fault the choice of aircraft. Nice to see one still earning its keep. You have a gift for making the route seem interesting and special. Thanks for a great ride. John

ddavid 149
Thanks very much for your comments - much appreciated! The ATWC is a magic opportunity to delve into different parts of the world, and I really enjoyed doing the research for this one - Pam and I love Italy and we'd recently been to Venice for a holiday. Yes, Trasimento is where Hannibal defeated the Romans for about the fifth time - a special place. And Corsica is somewhere I really want to go to, now that I've read up about it - all that granite and charcuterie! Ciao! - Dai.
