Captain Coffee 2,030
I am loving the PNW ORBx product. It is a perfect match for my new helicopter Jones...low and slow...and lots of obstacles to deal with on the ground. Not sure if this is typical...but I had MSE installed in that region, and found I had to actually uncheck the Oregon and Wash MSE sceneries in the FSX scenery library list...even with the PNW scenery above the MSE on the list. Definitely going to be installing the NorCal version of this stuff asap...and hoping their USA coverage expands. Not looking back at MSE (lovely though it is)...unless I plan on flying heavies high and far.
stu7708 244
@Geoff: Enjoy your ORBX experience... Just remember that since you bought the boxed version you will most likely have the release version on the disc, so you will need those updates (three in total for England) as well as the latest ORBX libraries. Install from the disc, switch your FTX region to EU in FTX Central, apply the three patches and finish off with the libraries. Stu' Now you have confused him.. Ah well, at least he knows where to ask for help though I am loving the PNW ORBx product. No expert on photoscenery, but I think that those takes priority over other scenery regardless of where in the scenery library it is located... another one of those FSX quirks I guess
MyPC8MyBrain 273
Not only is it from the company that sells GEX, it's written by the guy that develops GEX. So I'd say he is somewhat biased in his opinions. There are some fair points in there, but there are also things that are outright wrong. haa, Thank you Mikael i had a feeling he has some baggage; didn’t know he was the GEX dev! agreed though, he has some good points to consider; to each his own really its always good to make a decision form a fully inform standpoint
brett 2,310
Anyone think Geoff is busy flying around his new purchase, happily unaware, while we discuss this.
hifly 925
All this talk behind my back while I've been busy at work today, it's making me paranoid. Truth is it didn't arrive in the post today maybe the postie is enjoying it. To be honest I haven't been too keen on scenery as I mostly fly high in classic tubeliners but when I see the brilliant scenic screenies here I think I want some of that. Also after a few issues with my new hardware update I wasn't confident in its performance, now everything is ticketyboo. So hopefully I can enjoy a seamless approach to Heathrow over west London and recognise some of my old haunts albeit at 3000ft and 140kts. Or low n slow around the Lake District. Thanks yet again guys. Yours, The person who opens the can of worms.
brett 2,310
Oh, bummer, I hate when that happens. Are you sure the wife didn't hide it, hoping to get some yard work done. Oh well, the excitement builds waiting for your new toy.
hifly 925
I want it... NOW! Yes Brett, bit of a bummer but if I was trying it out now I would be missing the amazing spectacle of towering cumulus clouds marching majestically out there over the English Channel so there are compensations. So now I'll load REX and see if it can match them.
Captain Coffee 2,030
Well...my OCD won out. Screw being able to afford it...that will catch up with Next paycheck. I *needed it all now! I am downloading NCA, SAK, CRM, and NRM to join with my PNW scenery...Love this stuff. Hurry up and cover more USA ORBx...you have at lest one USA scenery junkie waiting for more!
brett 2,310
You just made yourself and ORBX very happy Matt. I'm jealous, enjoy the scenery, now with even longer flights with no scenery interruption.
Captain Coffee 2,030
I assume I'm a drop in the purchase buckets, though I have been overdoing it a bit ...blessings of being single and living a low cost lifestyle on a sailboat. I definitely made myself happy. Posting a few screens here of some pleasant surprises I found on my first explorations around the NCA area as it is relevant to the thread...if you don't mind . Mainly, it's like I got a ton of low cost airport upgrades to my favorite Air Hauler bases Half Moon Bay went from a few poorly placed over sized hangars in Default and a flat field in MSE...to this...ORBx actualy fixed/added the hill between the field and the shorline which wasn't there previously...nice. My first and favorite small field in the Napa / Sonoma area is Angwin Parrit ( 2o3 ). The ORBx hangars are well placed and it represent the actual field fairly well...again...it was misplaced or missing hangars previously. Now it even looks like I might be able to get my BMW download down the road to Napa from here...before there was a forest between field and the town... and no road at all connected to the base. Little Pope Valley, 2 miles away in the adjacent valley and visible in the top right of the above pic... which was formerly a dumb empty skinny asphalt strip which i used extensively to practice touch and goes between Angwin and here...now has been upgraded to a nice little AG field with a cool sprayer plane and farm equipment as static elements...very nice. And my main/first water plane base at Commodore Station Sausalito (22CA) actualy has docks....they are incorrect...but I'm just happy there are "field elements" now...again...previously...empty water and flat land textures. I am a very happy camper!
hifly 925
Yes Matt, I'm a gay camper too and am very pleased with my orbx UK and Southampton Int airport. Question now is do I go FTX Global or buy regions, or both. Ho Hum.
brett 2,310
I love flying into remote airports and seeing the orbx touch, compared to just a boring strip all by itself. I have discovered some really neat farm strips in PNW that have elec wires across the threshold and old trucks and such scattered about, really neat to find and land at. Things like people flow can look silly if you watch them just go back and forth but while taxing it fun to see them go by in your peripheral vision. Almost hit one guy, once. I enjoy the regions the most Geoff, I got FTXGlobal and Vectors to compliment the scenery when I fly out of the regions but they are by no means as good as the individual regions but not bad either. Just be careful if you have a lot of other scenery that might not work with Global and Vectors as discussed with Chris above. Another thing I learned after(because I didn't read good enough) is that Vectors works best if used with another payware addon called FS Global 2010, (from Pilot's) which is a mesh product. They also came out with a FTX version of the same product. Now Vectors looks ok in general without this but I am sure it would look a lot better if I had it. (It's on my list )
hifly 925
Thanks ole buddy, that's what I was thinking that Global would be too general so I'll ponder on what region to get next, PNW or California. If the work keeps coming in like it has been lately I can afford both but not have the time to enjoy it. It's a hard life.
