As mentioned in the announcement of section 7 we will be ending this ATWC with a multiplayer event in the same way as we did with ATWC IV.

The date for the event is July the 12th and the session will open at 13:00 UTC, with a 30 minutes preparation period for a 13:30 take-off.

The reason we will be doing the flight long before we are nearing the final leg is that I will be out travelling for much of the second half of July, and I will need some time to do the editing of the video.

The flight-plan can be found in the attached zip-file, in both FSX and Plan-G format. The plan is to do a Touch & Go at all the nine airports along the route.

The session will use the built in multi player function in FSX, so using FS9 or P3D for the session will unfortunately not be possible. Connection to the server will rely in the direct Connection function since support for GameSpy was pulled by Microsoft back in the October 2012 (if I remember correctly).  If you are unfamiliar with how this works check out this guide that Jess wrote on the topic.

For voice communication we will be using Skype, so that piece of free software, and a free account will also be necessary to have in order to participate fully.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, check out all the fun we had last time

So, have I convinced you that you should spend a couple of extra hours in front of your FSX Computer?

If you want to participate, leave a message here with your Skype user name in it (or just leave a message and send your skype username to me in a private message if you don't want that out in the open) and I'll see you on the apron at London City Airport for the fly-in.

You'll love it Brett... It's great fun.

The date is now set to Saturday July 12th, and the text of the opening post have been changed.'

One thing I forgot to mention in the first post.

We will not be having anyone assigned to do ATC-duties and it's up to every pilot to decide if you want to abide by standard aviation procedure, separation rules etc.. Don't be surprised if some of us wont  :D

Bad news for me, I'm getting kicked out of the house that weekend for my wife's yearly Wild Women's Weekend. :(  I will be staying in a hunting cabin, somewhere upstate New York, with a couple of buddies. The cabin is wireless ready but by that I mean there are no wires in it or the outhouse. :D

Have fun all, sounds and looks like a good time. :cray:

I am going to stick my neck out a bit on the multiplayer leg.  It will either make me look good, or.....not!

I want to fly an aircraft that I have been practicing slow flying on.  I can manage about 110 knots without starting to lose height, so that would be my slowest cruising speed. Otherwise the aircraft is very maneuverable, and will be able to cope with the touch and go aspects of small airfields (if I can pilot it well!!)

My concern is that others might find 110 knotts too fast. I have never taken part in a multiplayer event and I don't really know what to expect!

Any advice would be good.

Well, this is going to be a tad awkward but it seems I've made a mess out of the planning for this event...

My wife kindly informed me last night when I brought this up that we had prior engagements on both the 12th and the 13th that I had completely forgotten. And since it involves a hotel room already paid for by her parents it's not really an option for me to cancel it.

But after discussing the matter with Joe we've decided to go ahead with the event as planned. He will make a recording of the event using FS Recorder and send that over to me. That way I can fly the route with the rest of you as AI planes and still record the needed video for the PIREP. We do have one request though, please don't use any A2A-planes with AccuSim technology since these will not display correctly in the FS recorder file.

I'm really disappointed that I will not be able to join in, but I guess that's my own fault so I'll just have to live with it :(

John, I've forwarded your Skype details to Joe in case he doesn't have it, and any other participants that are uncomfortable with posting their Skype details on the forum can send them to Joe for use during the event.

@John, I don't think 110 knots will be to fast for the event. Should be a good pace I'd say.

This suggests we are limiting the aircraft choice?

If so, and in the interests of the video production, and aircraft representation anomalies, is it worth suggesting we restrict it further to default FSX aircraft or something most people have?

Yeah, I know I'm making it difficult, but having Brian portrayed in his Harry Potter flying "follow me" car just doesn't seem right.  :P

Cheers

Andrew

Not really limiting them Andrew, just figured a slow pace would be good considering the fairly short distance of the flight plan. Most add-ons work just fine with FSRecorder although the Multi player environment can play a few tricks on you... Those I know can be a hassle is the PMDG 737 NGX, and Joe pointed out the issues with A2A-planes to me in a PM. And I assume that the Dash-8 might be problematic too considering the external flight model/aerodynamics module....

The flying "Follow me"-car can be easily fixed for the video production, FSRecorder lets me set what model I actually see for each plane recorded... If you fly a tail-dragger I can swap that out for a 747 when recording.. that should look fun  ;)

I will probably fly the RealAir Lancair Legacy for a fun flight (Flying under Tower Bridge for example)  :)

Just so long as Micke has the model it will be ok for the recording.

To bad Jess, you'll be missed (even though I won't be there...)

Enjoy your vacation, and I'll make sure I enjoy Python   :whis:

Joe, there's no need to make sure I have the model, as long as I have something similar. When I play back the FS recorder file I can pick and chose what plane in my Hangar each recorded plane will be displayed as.....

But the Legacy will be no problem, that one I have...

I am looking at doing the leg in a Harrier. Micke and I are looking at the feasibility of this.  If it turns out I cant do it then the Chipmunk is my standby.

I have never done a multiplayer event.  Is there a post somewhere that explains how. And can someone confirm kick off time in the UK please.

I have Skype ready to go.

John,

As Chuck said, 2pm UK time.

In Micke's first post here is a link to Jess' guide to setting up multiplayer.

I will try to get a session up and running in the morning about 10:00 BST so you can test it out and I will be on Skype as well at the same time.

In the morning I will post what the IP address will be to connect to my machine (as it is not a fixed address)

Cheers

Joe

So fat I have Skype st up on the no 2 FS pc and have opened up and tested all the ports from the main FS pc as per the very useful post by Jess.

A test at 10 would be good. Hope to see you then!.
