flybytes 34
Sam, You said " enjoy", well what more can I say, your photos are wonderful. Some captions would have been a bonus, where did you photo them? I was fortunate to spend many weeks at RAF Coningsby where the Memorial Flight is based & saw first hand how the aircraft are meticulously looked after in their maintenance hangar - a credit to the RAF technical staff, past & present. Also must give credit to the volunteers who are battling financial difficulties to keep the Vulcan flying - a very expensive aircraft to keep in an airworthy condition. Looking to the future, it would be wonderful if these aircraft will be capable of flying for their centennial or even much beyond. Ray.

britfrog 180
I just realised in the 4th pic they are inflating the oleo leg I remember an interview with Bob Hoover and the interviewer asked him which he would have preffered to fly , a spitfire or a mustang aww hell he said, if i was going into battle the nswer was easy--- the mustang! why the interviewer asked Hell the spitfire while it sat on the groung overnight would have either dumped all its coolant on the ground or it undercarriage legs would have deflated rendering it unflyable , neither problem occurred on the mustang, and as any biker or old car enthusiast will tell you " if it doesnt leak it isnt english"
Herky 0
Hi Sam, marvellous photos. I am green with envy. Those two Lancs with the Vulcan!! whoa! are a beautiful sight. I bet the sound was amazing! I used to live next to RAF Leuchars and saw the Vulcan up there. I have sadly moved now, but they (political wisemen! ) have closed the RAF down at Leuchars and its to be Army. The runway is still available and there is talk of it being a "Space Port" for Richard Branson's Orbiter! Thanks again for the pics...Did you video the show by any chance? Best Regards David

rob16584 42
I wanted to book the day off work to go down to Waddington to watch them. Although there was more chance of my flying one of them than having the holiday request granted!
brett 2,314
I can't imagine someone wanting to take a day off from work just to have fun Rob. With today's companies trimming their work staff to the barest minimum to maximize profits, they can't afford to let workers take off. Don't you appreciate them letting you work for them in the first place. I joke about this because I was talking to a guy that owned a company and he was complaining that his workers were always asking for time off. He shook his head and said they had a lot of nerve asking when he was the one that gave them a job and he had stuff that needed to be done. I looked at him to see if he was just kidding but he kept on complaining about the ungrateful workers. This conversation came about because a worker wanted off for the funeral of a best friend that had died unexpectedly and wasn't "immediate family", note the worker did have accrued vacation time. The company used to have almost twice the amount of workers and everyone remaining was already giving it their all. Also note this guy/boss was on vacation at the time of the conversation.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Great Phots Sam. Sadly the Canadian Lanc didn't make Shoreham due to that engine problem. Hopefully will get a glimpse at the Goodwood Revival shortly. Cant go inside but plenty of places to view on the periphery.

hifly 925
That brought out the goosebumps. Thanks Nigel. Kate's grandfather, a navigator in a Lanc was killed along with both crews in a mid air collision with a Halifax 2 miles from their base while returning from a sortie over Stuttgart.
