Collected the new car this afternoon, Had to wait a few weeks whilst it was shipped over. Its a Fiat 500L , 1.3 16V multijet diesel with a a 5 spd Dualtronic semi-auto gearbox. The owners handbook is over an inch thick. Still trying to work out what everything does. the onboard computer seems to everything bar mow the lawn! One option (which I didn't bother with) is an in car coffee maker! I kid you not! The car takes up no more raod space than our old Kia did, but inside it's like a ruddy Tardis! anyway providing the government doesn't change the rules on DLA for a while we've got her for the next 3 years......

Old sailors used to put a gold coin under the mast, don't know how it goes with cars...  I have a good memory of Fiat, had a Fiat Uno in the 90s which kept running for many years. Of course there was no computer inside or electronics, which might explain why I didn't have any problems...  :) And living in Nice I used to take it often to Italy, so it probably liked it !

Enjoy in good health Alan

i had a F500 rental about a year ago

absolutely adorable car; i just loved it

the funny part is; i had it for a week while i was waiting for my new Prius

after driving it for few days; i didn’t want to drive my new car

i was head over heels in love with the 500

the only issue i have with it; it doesn’t come with built in nav

with all the light bawl and splashes; i often get lost driving

im used to see a moving map; i have to actually concentrate without it

the more gizmo's and computers the more that can go wrong and the more expensive it is to put right ,sadly,  enjoy it for 3 years whilst it is under warrantee then beqeath it to someone who can afford to pay for it to be repaired

Me? I am looking for a 20 year old deux chevaux, 1 carb , 1 set of points, a reliable engine and gearbox, runs on the smell of an oily rag. :)

@Alan, that is the coolest car! We don't see that model over here. We get the retro-500 that is still quite nice. They're selling like hotcakes despite the advertising campaign that put a lot of people off. Here's a link: http://jalopnik.com/fiats-new-ad-campaign-is-horrible-again-1592284471

@Nigel, Here's a video for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAocmae9vyE - 2CV at Mallory Park

The 500L is being marketed in the USA. Over there it gets the 1.6 Abarth engine which gives it a lot more poke. Plus a few other extras that Americans find nescasary, (you know the sort of thing, a sign on the dashboard that says although the car is automatic, you do need to remain behind the wheel whilst moving!) :P So check out your local Fiat dealer, you may be surprised. (there is also an even bigger version coming out and a sporty coupe.)

My auntie got one of these a few months back and loves it.

Although it's sad to see the 500 brand going the same way that Mini's have size-wise

Fiat did this with the very first ones though, they built the 500 Gardiniera estate, The 600 was a larger version but in fact was launched before the 500. from the 600 you also got the very strange looking Multipla which was to all intents and purposes the very first MPV and spiritual predecessor to my one.
