Skipping default flight when starting P3D

Recommended Posts

Hi from Spain

I´m new here and new to P3D as well. Comming from FS9.

So my first question:  (and there will be more  )

I would like to get to a start screen when I start P3D. I´m not a big fan of loading default flight and from there make another flight.

I have looked around in P3D but havent found a solution to that

Also, and parallel to my first question:

On flightsim library I´ve seen a simlauncher ( simlauncherxv10.zip    ) Has anyone tried that one out, is it recommendable, is there something similar and better. I dont like installing and uninstalling a lot of programs, so I ask first.

Thanks in advance

Hi Anders and welcome.

I'm no P3D guru, but does this help.

You have the option of displaying the Startup Screen when you first launch Prepar3D.

To show the Startup Screen on launch

In the General Settings dialog box, select the Show Scenario Startup Screen check box.

Click OK.

More info here:

http://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv2/LearningCenter/getting_started/options/simulation/general_simulation_settings.html

No doubt the real P3D experts will tell you more!

Cheers - Dai. :old-git:

anders you are correct if you change the stock default saved flight it sometimes doesnt register in p3d make sure the little button is coloured in and perhaps after you tell it to be the default flight it will finally agree to do as you want, but i had to tell it more than once.

I have simlauncher and find it takes as long as p3d to fire up sometimes so have persevered with the stock p3d intro page

Thanks for the fast and very kind answers.

So,.... it was an easy thing and I had looked but sometimes I dont see or maybe I expected it to be called something else. Anyways thanks. I think I prefer things this way.

Also thanks for the follow up on simlauncher. I will stay with stock for now. I really try not to install unnescessary things. I think what caught me in the zip preview was this nice map it has.

So I´m on to explore some more. I have to setup the PC, putting some folders etc on mec. drive so that I can keep the ssd as clean as possible. Also delete some of the airplane textures and aircraft.cfg entries. It can be a bit annoying with all these different repaints and nowadays they are not a megabite or so.....

I had absolutely no idea that you could tweak P3D so that a startup screen appears. I have been letting it load the default flight every time. Mind you, I have changed the default flight aircraft from the F22 Raptor to the Baron 58. I have done this because loading the F22 at the start causes problems on engine shutdown when using the QW 146. Strange, but true.

For now, I´m perfectly happy with being able to start with the default start screen.

I found it to be a waste of time to load a flight since I often want to do something else.

The default start screen takes very little time to load and if I feel like flying the saved default flight, its just a matter of clicking on "ok" (or is it called fly now)

P3D is so new for me that I dont want to much software now. I have an orbx demo and 2 addon aircraft installed by now and next step is to find out how to keep P3D on the SSD and orbx, other big scenery files and addon aircraft on the HDD. I´m studying and will find out (i think )

I enjoy the sim a lot. Its very fluent and a big step from FS9.
