Captain Coffee 2,030
Very liking it. Very very much. I had some troubles on ground manuevering, but that is my bad for pitching my rudder pedals into the drink...keyboard rudder sucks. But this plane does NOT. At KTVL, first looks: Close and dirty, appropriately I guess...maybe they could clean those drips under the windows a bit more??? Engine start sounded lovely, too many switches to learn right now so I CTRL-E started her (Phewwww...that works...thanks JF!) Take off was busy not having rudder pedals, so jump to phwooosh.... Gear going up! (And clearly I got sideways a bit on the take off...keyboard rudders suck). A look at all those lovely switches...Great panel as usual JF! Not sure how to make yoke disappear, but the HSI heading is adjust easy to get to if you shift seat just a bit to left. There is a pop up View Manager that can be used instead of key/assigned yoke buttons. It is the only stock pop out. (I assign those to my yoke..up and down, and left and right. Forward and backwards I set with keyboard commands...but the pop out will do them all. Again, no GPS or autopilot pop outs...but it is easy to add them to panel.cfg. Thanks again JF! VC is amazing...nearly every switch operates, and the few i found that didn't were marked "INOP". Well played JF, well played. Heading to course...KTVL to KSTS, Santa Rosa...with a wp or two in between. Keeping well within engine green zones...easily held 220kts IAS (260kts ground speed) at 15000 feet. It pulled 2,000 VSI easily on the way up there too, and could have gone better, I was at 190kts in the climb...great climb rate. Passing KBLU "stock" ORBx NCA scenery...don't have the payware field yet, but wanted this opportunity to take a couple comparison shots before I do pick it up. "WP-2"...a weird bump in the middle of the valley north of Davis/Dixon/Woodland area...i really need to research the geology to find out why such a round spot "bubbled" up like this. Approaching my favorite NC field Angwin Parret (2o3) a 3217 ft field at 1848 ft elevation...nice sorta short field to practice on...with services and coffee. Came in high...My M.O. But got her down to a reasonable approach angle thanks to fairly decent flaps...it was still screaming down at over 150kts...worried I would have to abort for a while. And thanks to no pedals, I flubbed the braking and had to abort after all...sigh...hurry up and get here...I just missed out on a cuppa of great Angwin coffee. (Saitek Pro Pedals are on order from Amazon...May 5th or so delivery date)... Totally would have nailed that if I had pedals...heh. Approaching Santa Rosa, KSTS Charles "Charlie Brown" Shultz Field. (he lived in Santa Rosa, RIP...one of our famous locals.) I attempted an ILS landing here, but could not capture the glide slope. It tried to take me into the ground way short of the field. Had to hand fly her in..fine with me, i rarely use ILS and need much more practice at it...so take my failure to ILS land with a grain of salt...your mileage my differ as I have no idea it it is me or not, but assume that it is my fault entirely. Some snapshots of a few of the other liveries...only 12 total paints...phew...im not a huge fan of addons coming with every airline possible...hangar bloat gets severe. SimStarter solved most of that issue thankfully with its livery manager tool. First two are the "100" model...rest are the 200/300 model as is the one I flew over. Thanks for flying along on first flight of a very friendly ship. She flys like a charm...very smooth and confidence inspiring. Detected no bugs or weird stuff on install or loading. Another fine fine product from Just Flight. Cheers, Matt.
ddavid 149
Great mini-review, Matt - thanks for posting! BTW, get those pedals, eh? Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,498
Enjoyed the first look Matt, I am getting the feeling you are ..ing it!
hifly 925
Very good Matt, great pics and test flight, she looks a real beaut and the cockpit look amazing. A go around on the first landing is usual. Guess I'll have to buy it! Thanks for the view.
rosariomanzo 545
Nice!
brett 2,316
Great shots of this new release Matt, you made it look nicer than on the JF site. I can't believe you can fly using the keyboard rudder, why not use the auto-rudder until yours come in. Check out Sutter Buttes here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sutter_Buttes
Captain Coffee 2,030
I did set auto rudder on Brett, but it doesn't turn the nose wheel or rudder enough on take off (but it's great for shaving paint off wing tips), or at all on ground handling. Thanks for the easy buttes link...guessed it was volcanic, but was wondering if it was upwelling or, as article said, eroding. Neat area geologically speaking if you like puzzles. donnybalonny 46
I agree that your screenshots are alot better than the JF ones. Yours look more natural, while the JF ones, especially of the VC looks a bit plasticky.
Captain Coffee 2,030
I've noticed a few vendor sites seem to have the same problem... Low resolution or poorly representative screenshots of the products. I can't say as how I blame them however, they have hundreds of products with a dozen screenshots or more per product so I can imagine bandwidth would get to be a big burden rather quickly if they had screen shot forum quality images for all their products. if, however, they included at least one high quality exterior, and one high quality cockpit shot of each product it would help us out. Captain Coffee 2,030
Oh, and I discovered tonight that I did not in fact have the Auto rodder on...d'Oh.
M.I.B. 39
Beautiful report on such a wonderful, priceless flying jewel Matt [i'm dead keen on oldies ]! HA, whaduyaknow, as a matter of fact, back in November, when this simulation was amost ready to be launched on the market, I was eagerly waiting for JF to release it followed by a report like yours on this very simulation (read my anxiety here), to see how good it was actually going to be, and sure enough, you came with this wonderful report, just what I wanted to see/hear. Now I know it's good (oh, what a surprise...NOT ), but I only use FS9, so I'll stick with Fraser McKay's simulation for FS9, which besides the Fokker F27, includes the Fairchild F-27 and the FH-227 as well (I've written a bit about them here, back in september). Great report Matt, enjoyed it! I still wonder just how much more realistic this JF simulation is compared to Fraser McKay's version for FS9....
Captain Coffee 2,030
Hi Dorel. Thanks for the kind words re: my brief mini review/first impressions. I had a look at your freeware version photos and it looks like a damn fine freeware...with a VC heads above most freewares...but the interior is FLAT Flat flat compared to JF's VC. They did a really nice job on this bird, virtually 'Capt Sim' quality textures and interiors...caveat, I don't know Aircraft systems well enough to comment on the Ct. Sim quality or not of its systems operation...but, she flies like a dream, and everything seems to switch on and off. Thanks again, glad you enjoyed the pics
mutley 4,498
I made the tutorial flight in G-STAN and enjoyed a hop across the North Sea, found one minor mistake in the instructions but everything else was brilliant!
M.I.B. 39
but the interior is FLAT Flat flat compared to JF's VC. Those 2 screenshots are actually of 2 different simulations of the F-27. I only have the one shown in the 2nd pic (by Fraser McKay) which has no VC at all, but is much more realistic than the one with VC (by Tom Gibson and his team).
