Blurry Ground Textures/Hardware Question

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm getting quite poor performance on FSX at the minute, I have most settings quite low... but the one I have maxed out is the terrain textures. The problem is i'm getting really blurry textures using Just Flights photo scenery for the UK. It just looks like one big blob of brown rather than being able to tell any landmarks etc.

My current system spec is as follows:

Asus P5QD Turbo

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300

4GB RAM

Nvidia GEForce GTX 550 Ti

1TB HDD

Now I realise the achilles heel in all of that is my graphics card, so i'm finally accepting it is time to upgrade my system to get more out of FSX. Ideally I don't really want to spend over £200-250. However if you can recommend any upgrades please do so. I'd be very grateful.

I have posted in scenery as I wondered if there were any tweaks I can do to get more out of the ground textures?

Many thanks

Luke

Hi Luke,

The best thing to do is back up and delete your FSX.cfg and take note of something like Nicks set up guide :  http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211.html to get the best out of what you have now.

Your graphics card could do with an upgrade but not as much as you CPU, it looks to have been introduced back in 2009, that's probably where the bottle neck lies.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply guys, i've just done some fiddling with the fftf and I am now convinced the problem lies with the JT Photo Scenery I have installed. No matter what settings I use the photo textures do not sharpen at all. Bit of a head scratcher this one....

Mobo Asus P5Q is a socket 775 ( I had a P5Q Pro when using XP with a Core Duo E8500 )  No way you can fit  an i5 or an i7 on this one ( socket 1150 )...

I'm affraid only things you can keep are the box, the RAM (not even sure if it's DDR2) and the HDD. I bet the power supply would probably also be short for new CPU and GPU.
