A very short international flight !

Recommended Posts

As I said in the "Happy 4th of July" thread, I decided to take the Drifter to try and deliver donuts to Quickmarch in Browning Harbour.

Take off from the US territory, Stuart Island some 9 nm in the SW of the Pender Island marina. Around 6:45 local, the weather is fine, wind calm and 13°C. The USCG "Eagle" is already out.

After a few minutes, crossing the border to Pender Island, Canada.

Browning Harbour should be after the bridge between the two parts of the island

Unfortunately I am disappointed that the marina is not depicted by Orbx where it should be, so impossible to drop the donuts !

I decide to make a stop at Hastings airstrip nearby ( uphill and bumpy ) and leave the donuts at the club.

Take off again eastwards from Hastings airstrip on Pender Island

On the way out, I notice a small marina on the SE part of the southern Pender island.

Some cruise ships are already on the way

Crossing the border again to Stuart Island 7WA5.

Back to the hangar, it is 7:30 local, time for a warm coffee and breakfast !

:D

Too fun.

Active Sky Next claims it's a nice day for a walk to pick up your donuts March.

Looks like a gorgeous spot too, based on Google Sat imagery...I'm tempted to fly over in a float plane and beg a donut off of you...I'll bring the coffee. :)

In fact I just realised I smuggled donuts into Canada. I didn't declare them as exported goods when I left Stuart Island, pretended it was for my own needs during the flight ! :D

Great shots.  Love the red, white an blue paint scheme. I'd like to t know what the Eagle is doing up there.  It is based out of Connecticut.

Thks. Maybe the Eagle is on a summer holiday cruise ? :)

Looks great fun, that's the only problem with microlights, once you're up there it's bloody cold! I found that out to my cost one summer. Decided to go up in Jeans and a polo shirt, (it was 70c at ground level). By the time we got up to 1'000 ft it was freezing!

I love the Drifter.  I think I used it as a two seater 007 "Little Nellie" for one of the legs on an ATWC many moons ago, with a custom paint job.

Big Nellie!
