Some preview shots of TileProxy

Recommended Posts

I've been testing TileProxy tonight, mostly flying GA/VFR around my home town and my nearest airport EGHI and Southampton.

This is FSX with the ultimate photo scenery from a well known satellite imagery service.

A railway branch line off the Waterloo to Weymouth line.

The M27 in the distance nearing my home town.

I can see my house from here! (Really :mrhappy: )

Now from the heli.

FPS from around 25 to 70, like the 2 famous FSX VFR sceneries there is no hit on frame frates

Hope you enjoyed this little preview, hopefully more to come

Sorry Dave it is for FSX only, by global I mean it covers the planet as much as the satellites do :sadblinky:

I managed to capture these of Melbourne, Oz, only places I recognised was YMML where I took off from and the MCG, here they are, the colours and resolution are not so good though but hey! :mrhappy:

Gee Mut - really put me on the spot! :mrhappy:

Hmm. I've never been to Melbourne, so the only thing I can recognize there is the Yarra River that you see in pics 5 & 6 - apart from that I'm stretched for any firm answers.

Bit slack aren't I?

Anyway, looks like a great package - but for Australia and FSX, I'll wait for VOZ Pro - http://www.orbxsystems.com. Take a look around the site -0.15m per pixel oughta be good! :mrhappy:

Ah the infamous commercial copyright breacher, TileProxy.

Regardless of how the developer 'subtly' covers it, he is using a commercial product(google earth) without permission.

Anyway, those shots are great Mutley, this guy is obviously a bright spark in the flight sim world.

"A railway branch line off the Waterloo to Weymouth line"

Thank god I drive down to bournemouth now, instead of taking this line. Its the most bumpy and engineered line I have ever used. Its also very over priced, although south west trains customer support has been good to me in the past.

You should post some shots of Marwell :mrhappy:

Hi Martyn

Point taken about the developer, he's obviously got talent. I don't know if you have read his release notes (I'm sure you have) I think he wanted to get this to market before anyone else as he doesn't have the business knowledge to sell his skills.

I am surprised this is available from AVSIM but there you go. It takes a lot of setting up as he leaves out the most important information which you have to work out for yourself. I am not going to pass this on before anyone asks. I didn't post this on JF as I do not post Gen X (or advertise them as being Gen X shots) as that is just taking the mick.

I think he wants people like Google to come to him but I expect they already have the skills (These are not Google Earth images by the way).

It's not really practical for every day use, there's no water and no night textures. Also the amount of disc cache required is prohibitive.

I will have a look around Marwell later, I'm not sure if the quality of the textures there will be worth it? (I could always post some Gen X shots as JF VFR Real hasn't got here yet :mrhappy: )

Cheers

"I could always post some Gen X shots as JF VFR Real hasn't got here yet "

Of course we have, we have done the whole of England and Wales :mrhappy:

We just haven given it to you simmers yet. Wales is looking absolutely stunning, you will be blown away with the quality!

Right then, Joe - thanks for whetting our appetite :!: I'm uncertain how to install TileProxy - I downloaded the Beta 2 zip from Sourceforge but the 'readme.txt' doesn't say what to do. Is there any documentation - I don't really like to hit the button on the 'exe' file without knowing what's going to happen.....

Old plodders, like me, take time to catch on

Cheers - Dai.

I would be very careful Dai as it makes BIG changes to your system and there is no uninstaller

All the documentation is loaded once you install the program. To save you installing it I will mail you the instructions but as I said earlier there is a huge chunk of info he leaves out for legal reasons so it's trial and error on the set up.

Unfortunately I cannot provide information on how to access these servers as the legality is questionable but the information is available on the web.

Cheers

Can you give me a download link for this scenery?

Here you go http://sourceforge.net/projects/tileproxy/

Don't forget this is for FSX only and there is NO support so it is used at your own risk, but the good news is that the beta2 version now has an uninstaller.

Also, I do not recommend you post any shots on Just Flight of TileProxy as they will be removed by me

Cheers

It is for the whole world.

Don't forget Just Flight have their own scenery, VFR Real and VFR Photographic for FS9 So advertising or singing the praises for other scenery legal or otherwise would breach their forum rules and would not really be the done thing.

Cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey mut,

How do I get this working? Can't find anythign on the web to help. Any chance of getting a copy of your .ini file please. I said please

EDIT: Had a go and it's too complex for me, so I couldn't get it set up right and kept gettign an error, plus FS loading would stop at 35%. I give up with it. Would've been nice though.
