mutley 4,495
You have been warned. Another Mutley's marathon post. As we had the weekend off from the ATWC I took myself off to Switzerland for some pleasure flying. My Cirrus SR22 had been shippped ahead and prepared to the highest standards so I knew I was in for a good time. Having checked the weather it was CAVOK, Vis was about 20 miles, High cirrus, low winds, perfect for flying. So I loaded up FSX and TileProxy to see how well it would render. the colours were a bit bright so you may want to turn down the colour and brightness :mrhappy: Here we are ready to go, the engines have warmed up nicely, all systems go. With these satellite images you get a feeling of depth of field as the textures in the distance are out of focus. Were off, heading for a circuit around the mountains. As usual I am flying VFR following the main road. It's a lovely view up here, there's so much to see. The airport in the distance, I remember that was a great breakfast I had there! There's a right turn ahead I must take, just after Burger King! Here we go and guess that airport!? I'm planning to fly to the top. That will take us over 10,000 ft. Yet another scenic view. This is getting a bit of a struggle for the engine but I am urging her on. Phew, we're at the top, she was spluttering a bit and gasping for air. But it was worth it! The passengers are clicking away! There's another right turn ahead in this circuit. I was just taking a deep breath and enjoying the view myself.. Then most of the avionics failed. Luckily I still had GPS and VFR. Oh! speak too soon, everything has gone dead. The circuit breakers are ok. I can see the runway so we may be able to make it. I can hear deep sighs in the back as they have been through this before. (With me, whoops!) Who would guess it? An oil leak too, the engine is sure to die, not so funny now She's mis-firing only a matter of time now  I've got the CAPS system primed and ready, it's probably my only hope as we are still over water with nowhere to land either side Here we go, the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System is deploying :???: We are jolted back in our seat as the engine is now spooling down and the chute takes over. I'm still hoping to make it to land, but there's an unfavourable wind now. The "nose cam" took this for posterity. We're definately not going to make land as we are spiralling down. Life jackets are ready. This is quite a nice feeling in a wierd way, just like being in a glider. Just getting ready to brace. Ah, this was unexpected... Satellite imagery, there's no water :mrhappy: We've landed safely as though the lake was frozen. I'm just on the phone getting the AA out to rescue us!! I hope you enjoyed this bit of nonsense. The scenery from the cockpit was simply stunning and very 3d, difficult to show in these pictures! Well the Mut is safe, the Hangar lives On!! Hope you enjoyed, catch up soon. B77W 0
That's one eventful flight! Loved the parachute! Keep 'em coming Joe!
dgor 0
Great shots Mut. Shame about there being no water, but it's probably just as well :???: That SR22 looks worth buying for the CAPS system alone - not many aircraft in which you can go up to 10000ft and then skydive down again! :mrhappy: Dave
JoeEllwood 0
Lovely piccies Mut, really full of life and energetic - I really enjoyed those. The C400 would be able to make it up those mountains without breaking a sweat, if you let me know where you flew I'll give it a go. Let's just hope I don't run into the same problem you did, the Columbia has no CAPS - only the trusty Continental IO-550. Also, I'd be scared to hear the download size for this TileProxy! mutley 4,495
It looks like this in FS9. I flew from LSMI straight out of zero fife. Over the lake until you see a mountain pass off to the right. You shoud see LSMM on the far shore of the lake, you know you should be turning soon. Up the ravine. To the top. I've turned left this time to fly over LSMM. Then chuck yourself out of the aircraft! Remembering your parachute of course :blush That's twice in as many days I am going to hit the deck courtesy of a chute Happy flying all, I'm not going to be around today, visiting relatives and watching the Spanish F1 GP Cheers
JoeEllwood 0
Awesome. Cheers Joe. I'll print that off and have a go either tonight or tomorrow arvo. Spanish GP eh? I've probably asked this before, but which drivers do you support? Felipe all the way! :???:
