Leg 29 : Thompson - Chicago Midway

Recommended Posts

Here are the shots of my flight for leg 29.

The aircraft is Just Flights DC-10 Collection. The scenery is freeware from avsim.

Showing off that lovely tri-jet tail

01.jpg

No jetways here, a simply airstair entry

02.jpg

The airfield is pretty darn small for a DC-10, thank god we have three engines!

03.jpg

Its great to be in a non-airbus/boeing cockpit, a nice change

04.jpg

Starting our wing mounted engines

05.jpg

Followed by our tail engine

06.jpg

Pushing back and being careful not to hit anything

07.jpg

The lovely hanger we took over as an ATWC HQ

08.jpg

Taxing to the active...all of 3 metres

09.jpg

Brakes on, full thrust, brakes released and rolling

10.jpg

A spotters view as our three engines scream out in pain

11.jpg

Just make it off the runway, carrying out a steep climb to avoid trees on the airfield boundry

12.jpg

Autopilot engaged and contacting ATC with our intentions

13.jpg

Not a heavily populated area...

14.jpg

Turning right onto the airway

15.jpg

A shot of the road below

16.jpg

Making sure I have plenty of fuel over this empty landscape

17.jpg

Some interesting looking cloud formations

18.jpg

Plenty of water in these parts

19.jpg

Definatetly a wide bodied aircraft

20.jpg

A good airspeed is giving me a great flight time

21.jpg

Now entering more populated farmland

22.jpg

An aerial view of Chicago and Meigs airfield

23.jpg

On the glideslope

24.jpg

Chicago spotter shot

25.jpg

On finals, view from the captains seat

26.jpg

Look at that lovely paintwork

27.jpg

Still have around 78% fuel left, thus I maintain a high pitch on approach

28.jpg

All that fuel, combined with a crosswind, gives a smoky touchdown

29.jpg

Dirtying up the aircraft in order to slow down asap

30.jpg

31.jpg

32.jpg

Vacating the runway at a steady speed

33.jpg

34.jpg

35.jpg

Parked up safely at the terminal

Nice aircraft, nice shots. I've always liked that plane.

That flight brings back memories. Your destination is about 40 miles from where I lived and had my career

(and learned to fly), before relocating to sunny Florida.

Martyn,

A fantastic range of shot's and a great advert for the upcoming DC-10 release (May 25th?)

I hope you had permission to fly this aircraft as I don't what to get into Scotty's bad books.

I love that cockpit and can't wait to get my copy.

I'm just deciding now whether to to make my flight in "X" or "9" :mrhappy:

Cheers

How about the VLJ in FSX?

I havent actually cleared it with Scotty, but its already been published by CLS so its not an issue.

I would love to do the next leg(whenever Im allowed another one) in the Airbus series aircraft. Some great aircraft

I think I will use FSX, I had promised Hama that I would fly the HondaJet VLJ in one of the legs so it may be that or it may not :mrhappy:

Martyn, legs 34 & 36 are still up for grabs if you wish to offer just mail atwcmail.gif And we will pencil you in

Cheers

beautiful shots, and a beautiful flight.

Was dissapointed that you didnt try to land the DC-10 at Midway, stopping that thing on MDW's extremely short runways has gotta be fun...

More than once i have almost messed up, and that was in a 737!

I assume you meant Meigs? I would have to be very lightly loaded to get the DC-10 stopped on that strip :mrhappy:

It would!, but no. I ment Chicago Midway.

Unless i am very much mistaken you landed at Chicago's Main airport, O'Hare. One of the busiest airport in the USA, and the world for that matter...ICAO; KORD.

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0052270/L/

Midway is a smaller airport with runways of just under 7000ft in length. ICAO; KMDW. Its promary user is Southwest. And its almost perfectly square in shape!

I just assumed it was becuse of the size of the aircraft you chose to fly to ORD.

Darn, I have done a Ryanair!

It was a long day at JF and I was on the phone to natalie on approach, I made visual with the runway at O'hare and assumed it was Midway.

Darn, I have done a Ryanair!

That was the mother of all mess-ups, you should have seen some of the news headlines over here where it happened :mrhappy:

Martyn, do you want to do a leg 29.5 perhaps in a heli or GA plane between O'Hare and Midway? Just to keep everything on track.

"Martyn, do you want to do a leg 29.5 perhaps in a heli or GA plane between O'Hare and Midway? Just to keep everything on track."

:mrhappy: Lets make something up like ummmm...they drove it from O'hare to Midway!

Cab fare from O'Hare to Midway will be about a million bucks, and go via South Bend Indiana with a middle eastern cab driver who speaks 3.5 words of English, but with a bad accent.

He will, however be fluent in the exchange rate of Pounds Sterling and Euros to US dollars, only microseconds behind any change in bank rates.

The number of visas, drivers's licenses and green cards in his posession will be zero, except those that are forgeries, which he will gladly sell in any quantity you care to name.

Martyn,

Tip for flying in the Chicago area....

If there are so many runways you can't tell which is your's, it's O'Hare. If the runway's too short,

it's Midway. If there's no runway, it's Meigs.

:rofl

Its quite strange really, when I first started simming(FS2000), I only ever flew from Meigs in a C172. All I would do is fly from Meigs to O'hare, to Midway and back to Meigs.

To be totally honest, I was concentrating too much on Natalie to even think about where I was landing. It was a case of, there is a runway, lets land it! :bored:

Always remember, real life is far more important than a computer game
