hurricanemk1c 195
Basically, when you move your head, the view on the screen will move too, to a certain user-controller extent
allardjd 1,853
Until using TrackIR I was striclty a 2D cockpit guy - I found panning around the 3D cockpits with the hat switch unnatural and distracting. With the TrackIR the 3D cockpits come into their own and the feel of the whole thing becomes immensely more realisitic. John
GabethePilot 1
Gabe, that is one killer tag-line. Who was that masked simmer, Bruce Artwick? John Can't remember where I found it - just nicked it. Hope I don't get sued. After my recent move and Bass-spinning tackle purchases, they can have everything left in my bank acotreehouse - about 58 pence! :001_th_smiles89:
GabethePilot 1
Gotta agree about the TrackIR. It's next on my list, before a 27" monitor. If you like flying the fighter planes - perfect example Skysim's Hawk (used by the Red Arrows) - having a TrackIR utterly transforms the experience. It really IS better than sex... where simming is concerned... ......... well at least I seem to remember it is... I think. Oh darn the mad cows!
David TRIGGS 0
Bonjour Brian, I must admit I always thought the principle of TrackIR totaly illogical. Considering for a moment a minimum FS system (all on one monitor) ... you are facing this monitor looking forward, then moving you head to the left the image on the screen moves in the direction of your head, but you are looking at the wall next to your computer not this monitor ... what's the sense of it ... ?!?! I understand now that there is a zoom facility which could be useful, but still cannot credit the use of an image showing a side view when you are not looking at the screen ... !?!? Hope someone can fill me in on the way round this apparent illogicality, and what I'm not getting ... ??? David
hurricanemk1c 195
Bonjour David! You can control the sensitivity of TrackIR in the user interface - for example, if you set it so that if your head rotates 5 degrees, the sim image will rotate 45 degrees Hope it helps! David TRIGGS 0
Right Sabre & Kieran ... thanks! I see know that with "motion scaling" one can be looking (say) 30 degree left (ie still looking at the screen) whilst getting a 90 degree left screen/sim view. Still it seems to me only to work with FS virtual cockpit view (which I never use!)Also sitting in a home cockpit the forward view moving around over a "fixed" physical control panel seem a bit odd to say the least ... !!! Another thing ... in a two place cockpit seems like visual anarchy between the 2 TrackIR headsets ...... (or, again, am I missing something?) Thanks for everybodies help to this dyed in the wool 2d man ............ David
needles 1,013
Hi David, Apologies for not reading your reply. Kieran has got it spot on. I failed to explain how TrackIr works effectively. You will still be looking at the screen when you set the tolerances correctly. I would definately recommend it. I very much doubt you would regret it. regards Brian
rabbitc 0
I'm seriously thinking about REX2 but my system is not exactly a powerhouse. Is there any point if you don't have a monster rig?
mutley 4,498
I'm seriously thinking about REX2 but my system is not exactly a powerhouse. Is there any point if you don't have a monster rig? All it does is replace your default textures with another file, it's not another process that has to take cycles away from your processor. However, depending on your settings it may use higher therefore bigger resolution textures which may have an impact. But Rex2 is a program that you will enjoy for as long as you have flight sim. GabethePilot 1
REX 2 is very scaleable - with 4MB textures right down to the FSX-defualts... but looks a lot better !!! My system suxx... but I have no problems with REX. In fact, if you only play on a low-ish resolution - like up to 16x10, you wouldn't really notice the benefit of the huge textures, so can get away with 1MB or even 512k textures... and even those look a lot better than default. Sabre 28
I'm seriously thinking about REX2 but my system is not exactly a powerhouse. Is there any point if you don't have a monster rig? The real short answer is yes there's a point - get it :icon_thumbup: As the others have said you can scale it to suit. You won't regret getting it for one minute.
PanzerFodder 0
I'm seriously thinking about REX2 but my system is not exactly a powerhouse. Is there any point if you don't have a monster rig? I Wish that you had posted this yesterday!, as the REX2 download was on sale, $20 OFF for one day only but it's over now . Kicked myself as I only bought it 2 weeks ago for the full price :001_th_smiles48: but even at that price it is more than worth it IMO . Cheer's...Graham...
rabbitc 0
Wow, thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll definitely get it now, I think. Btw, don't worry Graham - I have a knack for missing sales.
