Soya 7
Hi Folks, Let me share with you my latest test results of my new pc (specs & info listed in my last post). I have been mainly concerned with image quality and frame/smoothness performance, both are doing well, in fact I think I have the image quality to its maximum. Tricky part on the image quality was to get used to the new resolution I am running FSX now, previously I used 1920x1080 (1080p) now I'm using 2560x1600 on a 30'' monitor. Having more pixels sure looks good, awesome in fact, tricky part was converting the image bmps I took (16mb each!) to an acceptable size and quality on my photobucket account to share with the forums. Although much of the 'wow' factor from seeing the images at 2560x1600 taken down to 1280x960 with jpg compression is lost, I still hope you will all enjoy the quality of the images here and to come in the future. For test bed purposes I am sticking with a simple install of FSX atm, just FSX Accel, REX2.0 Overdrive, ENB series mod, Flytampa's TNCM (as I have been using the intro flight of FSX as FPS tester) and Coolsky's Super 80 Pro with McPhat's World Airlines 1 & 2 for the S80 (this is to keep an eye on the maximum image quality). So please let me share with you this latest test series: As always, thanks for viewing and feel free to add comments, especially in regarding to image quality etc.

Soaranden 84
...much of the 'wow' factor from seeing the images at 2560x1600 taken down to 1280x960 with jpg compression is lost... Yes, I went from a meager 1680 screen-width resolution to a still meager (when compared to the resolution of your new monitor) 1920 resolution, last summer. Since then, I have certainly noticed the difference in "wow" factor when I lower the resolution in order to post a screenshot online. (The "A Lucky Shot" screenshot I posted in this forum, yesterday, just doesn't have the impact that it has when viewed at full 1920 resolution, and you'll have to take my word for it). It's great to have 1280 width available in this forum, though. Some sites are more restrictive. One thing I wish all sites would do - and particularly sites that accept postings of images - is to quit using white backgrounds. I originally posted a nighttime image of my current entry in the monthly screenshot contest. It looked good to me when viewed on my computer in Irfanview with a black background. When I previewed the image with a white background, most of the detail disappeared. I went back into Flight Simulator and did a dusk screenshot, instead. Still the dusk screenshot loses most of it's detail, too, when viewed on a white background. Last year, I came across an even more important reason for sites to get rid of white backgrounds. I have a 16-year-old niece who suffers from migraine headaches. Her headaches have been so disabling that she went to New York to see a specialist. It turned out that the specialist could do very little, but in the course of hearing about the situation, I learned that migraine headaches are caused by light. Naturally, in her school work, my niece has to use a computer and use the Internet. Unfortunately, most of the Internet has pages with white backgrounds which set off my niece's headaches, and my niece and her school work suffer as a result. Also unfortunately, the number of people who suffer from debilitating migraine headaches is quite large. Yes, browser settings can be changed to enable a dark backgrounds, but people who spend most of their day viewing the Internet on public computers usually don't have access to those settings. Many web sites override default browser settigs anyway. Yes, the brightness of monitors can be lowered, but doing so can adversely affect both image quality and text legibility. Mutley, is there any chance that the page backgrounds could be changed to something a little less bright than white? I prefer black for pages that contain images, and I think that black backgrounds even improve the appearance of daytime images such as the wonderful screenshots seen here. But what do other forum members think? Dan
