mutley 4,498
Oooh we do a lot of web development, something I would like to get more into, we develop and host a lot of major company web sites with the on-line web interface linking directly into our main sales order processing applications. We use our own generic database design and queries but our new software will shortly will be 100% Oracle based. Well I must be off, got an early start, flying from EGHI first thing so see you guys at the weekend. Be good, my moderators will be watching!! Cheers

simi_av8r 0
My 'title' if i could put one on my job, would be: "Apple Computer Technical Enquiry and Support Specialist", but that covers not nearly everything i do... For starters, not only do i answer incomming technical support enquiries by telephone, but also do this face-to-face with showroom customers. In addition to the technical role, I'm alos employed as an Apple engineer and help the trained engineers here install components (memory, hdds, optical drives, gfx chips etc etc) into Apple macs - a very special role, since the Jack/Jane Bloggs of us on the street can't do this normally due to the nature of the Apples all-in-one designs! I also manage incoming and out-going product returns of "faulty" products to and from customers and/or manufacturers, as well as repaired and exchanged goods. On top of all of this, i'm also fully trained in retail sales and showroom interactions with customers on both a sales and technical level. And to round it all off, i act as a customer services representative when things go wrong! so, there we have it, thats what i do!!
reef 3
Ooohh lots of clever people. Me, Scaffolder for 13 years. Qualifications needed.....none. Scariest moment, 100' high on the east coast doing pipe extraction for British Gas. Gale force winds, rain and scaffold covered in hydraulics. Sudden gust pushed me 5' across the scaffold with my feet sliding to within 6" of the edge with no handrails. Adreneline rush, makes you feel alive!! I love to be outside in the wind, high up!! steve

mutley 4,498
Theo, Pilot Under Training sounds goods to me  Simi, my position is very similar to yours, nowadays you just have to be so flexible that if you tried to put a title to it it would take all day to read it! Reef, I'm not that clever, a lot of people play up the IT role but it's not rocket all science, sure there are some very clever around and in my company the developer mostly have Doctorates but the rest of us are ordinary people. I remember working for my friend just after I left school painting, decorating and window cleaning just to keep the wolf from the door and I know how precarious it can be on those high platforms. I would love working in the outdoors rather than at the desk all day. Cheers,

mulletman 0
I thought i would reply late, as my job also explains me absence recently. I work for Blacks. Fo those of you who dont know who we are, we are an outdoor company, part for the same group as Millets and Freespirit. http://www.blacks.co.uk/blacks.storefront/ I was employed at the smae time i stopped appearing online lots. Although i am only on a 10 hour a week contract, we are very understaffed, and so i ended up working a lot more than that, in some cases, 40 hours a week. It doesnt help that although for the majority of the time i was a sales assistant (known as monkeys) i have now been promoted to supervisor (a human) and therefore in most days to make sure there is someone with authorisation to do refunds and exchanges, as well as the paperwork. And now, even though i havent worked there long, we have lost our manager, which measn that effectivly, i am the highest ranked person in the store. I will be getting cover though, other managers form places like solihull and leighton buzzard are coming over to help me. Its a really fun job though, and i love doing it. Especially when it gets busy. And best of all i have created rivalrys with other stores. So if you are ever in Blacks in Cardiff or High Wycombe, tell them i said hi...
