brett 2,314
I actually got it right and I really do not know much about aircraft as you have probably noticed. If you all will give me a bit of time I will try to come up with something to give all the experts here a challenge. Time for a quick bit of a history learn'in.
dodgy-alan 1,587
The low flat wing profile showed it was based on the Britannia, but I just couldn't remember the name of the thing quickly enough!
brett 2,314
Probably an easy one but I just got attached to the look of this while perusing.
dodgy-alan 1,587
vickers Vimy?
brett 2,314
Correct my green faced friend. It is a Vimy, a replica to be exact. I didn't think it would take too long for this one but she sure is nice to look at and thought it would be a great addition to this thread. More information can be found here on this aircraft. Over to you Alan.......
dodgy-alan 1,587
Ah , the spirit of Brooklands, I've been lucky enough to see this aircraft several times, tha last time was when she was on finals for Goodwood and flew slowly across Fontwell Racecourse as we listened to an evening concert. It was a magical sight. The aircraft is now in the Brooklands Museum as far as I know. OK for the next one I'd like you to have a bash at this one. It should be fairly easy. pacinka 0
Would it be a Ryan PT-22?
dodgy-alan 1,587
It would indeed be a PT22, ah well , I didnt think it would last long! this was taken at Shoreham last month.
pacinka 0
Interesting plane, that PT-22. Haven't seen that many open-cockpit monoplanes... Anyway, here's the next one: Have fun!
Quickmarch 488
Looks like a slightly bent helo. The cable cutter under the bow is typical; Let's say it's a Bell Jetranger. Cheers, March
Dizzy 0
Interesting plane, that PT-22. Haven't seen that many open-cockpit monoplanes... Anyway, here's the next one: Have fun! I'm guessing an AgustaWestland AW139. And not only an AW139 but one flown by Ornge, Ontario Air Ambulance.
pacinka 0
I'll make sure to crop it even more next time! It is indeed the AW139 from Ornge. I took the photo at Macdonald-Cartier Intl in Ottawa. Over to you Sean!
Dizzy 0
Ya you can't miss the colour of that paint job. Plus I'm from Ontario and have seen many Ornge helo's come into my airport. There is/was a huge scandle when Ornge bought these helo's. I'll get a new aircaft soon as I find one.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Was gonna say the AW139, but someone beat me to it! Ive got a rather nice model of a Coastguard one sat on my shelf!
dodgy-alan 1,587
They are a great aircraft, Our coastguard uses them now, they finally sorted out the night flying problems and were able to retire the S61Ns. personally though I thought those big Sikorskys had more of a prescense. Our local guys in action just off the beach last year !
Dizzy 0
Finally got this edited and uploaded. Two airplanes in this picture one is a Beaver but whats the other?
pacinka 0
Looks like a de Havilland Otter. Perhaps one of Green Airways?
Quickmarch 488
Noorduyn Norseman - Those funny little legs at the top of the gear attachment point are really distinctive. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noorduyn_Norseman
Dizzy 0
Leave it to another Canadian to get the Norseman. They're pretty famous in Northern Ontario. You just have to see Red Lake in the summer.
Quickmarch 488
Sorry about that Dizzy, I love those airplanes. Here's one that's been ridden hard and put away wet. Could be another Canadian. I've got a lot of time logged in this little rascal. May the force be with you. March
dodgy-alan 1,587
Hmm not sure, that control column looks far too heavy for the apparent size of the aircraft. Not a single seater with a control wheel thats for sure. Yet the curve of the dash seems to indicate a fairly small aircraft! and apparently Canadian built at that according to the makers label.
Quickmarch 488
Most definitely a single seater, Alan Also manufactured in the USA
dodgy-alan 1,587
Most definitely a single seater, Alan Also manufactured in the USA Blimey, with a control column that size it looks like it belongs in a bomber! Do they make Barn Doors as well? !
dodgy-alan 1,587
Absolutely no idea what it is, spent half of last night trying to find something that matched. ...zilch!
Dizzy 0
I'm going to hazard a guess and say a Boeing-Stearman Model 75.
