At the time that program came out people were probably mad that their older PC wasn't powerful enough to run it. I did have a 386 PC around that time and I purchased a 486 because I wanted to run a new sim, it was an early Eurofighter (Typhoon) with missions in the Balkan States. It is complete and still in it's original box. I can probably also do you a copy of WordPerfect 5.0 too. Use to tweak the .bat file to load as much up into high memory, above 1024 KB (yes, a whole 1 MB), using the himem.sys command - if I remember my old DOS commands. Link to post Share on other sites

Did you try to install it on your current PC to see how it runs Like Andrew I also spent a fair amount of time tweaking memory allocations in the config.sys and autoexec.bat files, so sure you had to tweak them back then too... One of the methods of getting rid of the small stuff is the ubiquitous "Garage Sale". this is where you put a bunch of stuff on a table out in the drive and watch your neighbours and other strangers squabble over it and offer you $0.05 on the dollar to take it off your hands. At the end of the day, you stuff $300 in your jeans (that's for $6000 worth of retail) and put the losers out by the road with a "Free" sign. You might be amazed at what goes once it's free. The point of this post is that one of the items that no one would even take away for free was a brand-new in-the-box 1024K Modem. brett 2,284 Posted January 30, 2013 Report Share Posted January 30, 2013 I have/had(wonder where it is) a copy of FS2004 w/the World Trade Center in the scenery that did not work to well in an old not very powerful XP run PC. When I got the newer dual core Vista run laptop it would not work in it. Even if I tried to run in in XP mode. It said something like it wasn't compatible. I knew even less than the nothing I know now about computers So purchased FSX. Quite a bit of the older programs I had would not work either. Will it ever get to the point where FSX will not run in newer operating systems? I have already read about problems some folks have had with Win8. Link to post Share on other sites

I've got some older stuff (AutoCad) running under an XP emulation on my Win7 system. Otherwise it may be worthwhile to try to snap up some Win7 OS disks from retailers and keep them squirrelled away against the new day. Can you do this? The laptop that I use came with Win7 Pro installed and no backup disks. Just a set of instructions to make your own "rescue" disk. Cheers, March Link to post Share on other sites

Might have to dust off my wifes (real)old laptop and see if it will work in that. Like I said I am not computer savvy but you would figure that old programs like you show above would be a snap to run in a brand new PC. Is it technology getting in the way or the powers that be trying to outdate stuff so you are forced to but new? On a different subject, I gave all my old record albums to a friend thinking that he would buy something that would be able to record the music to CD's. He tells me that they don't really make something like that and the ones he did find, that could, did a crummy job. It's almost like they do not want you to be able to do it and would rather have you buy the digitally altered muck they now sell. Back on topic. Folks are getting to run FSX in Win8 but are having to make some adjustments. Link to post Share on other sites

Even knowing what the flag is not going to solve the problem which is constant disconnects. Until changes are made to Windows 8 we cannot support it as it requires hacks etc to work. Once that is done we can look at releasing updated, until them re are aware you will have lots of issues. The solution is a dual boot driver with Windows 7. Do you know what the error message was? Just out of curiousity and who knows, I might think of something ... Back on topic: My first true, 3D flight simulator was a Mig-29 momochrome game that ran directly of the floppy: no install needed! That must have been early eighties on a Commodore. I just moved and everything is in limbo land and can't find my copy(can't hardly find anything as I had moved three times in two years before settling in my new house). GHAO 0 Posted February 12, 2013 Report Share Posted February 12, 2013 I got Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon free online the other day (made 1990) - it asks for 512kB of RAM but doesn't give anything more, just a bunch of PC names that as a 17-yr-old I don't recognize, save for the company IBM!
