  1. Thanks Wayne, I was just hoping it would connect with ATC to get the IFR flight plans in the system before firing up the sim. I'm new to the P3D version of ATC but the few flights I've done have all resulted in problems getting hooked up to the ATC system. Mostly this consists of not starting with an IFR clearance. I just get instructions from ground to the hold line and a VFR clearance. One flight refused to let me launch because the wx was below VFR minimums, so no way to air file. I've not found a way to get the thing out of the VFR loop, short of shutting down the sim completely and s
  2. OK. We can put this to bed for now. I installed the SP3 file with all the warnings on it. Installed fine and now my version matches what it is supposed to be. Fired it all up and most of it works as advertised. The flight plan function still needs to be studied. I can make one and (supposedly - I can find several written this morning, but ATC can't find them) save it and use it. The 'Fly Now' button injects the weather, P3D loads, but I still have to create the flight plan within P3D to have it recognised by ATC and acted upon. More time needs to be spent on this one.
  3. There is definitely a place in the second tab under 'Weather Engine' where you have to tick a few boxes. Those boxes are: - Enable Rex Weather Engine - Ticked - Enable Auto-Start the Rex Weather Engine - Ticked - Enable Auto-Launch the Flight Simulator - Ticked - Enable Vatsim - (Not ticked in my case) - Enable green message bar within the simulator - Ticked - Enable weather data download - Ticked Thanks for the thought, I think I have that covered.
  4. Thanks Joe, Seems there have been a lot of changes over at Rex. I'm betting that what you're thinking of is what they now call the 'Download Centre'. Updates are not there, they seem to reside in the 'Support Forum' page. I'm going to bite the bullet and install the SP3 despite the semantics issue on the upload page. I think the proof is in the statement that 1126 becomes 1211 after the hotfix.
  5. I'm back - 4 hours! That's how long it took to backup and remove both P3D and Rex Essentials. I did have dinner in the midst of all that and did a few short flights in P3D to make sure that my recovered scenery (see another post on the CYYJ RW27 ILS Fix in this forum) and added aircraft files all went back in with no problems. All appears to be sweetness and light on the P3D front. Rex - now that's another thing altogether. I re-downloaded all the files for Rex Ess & O'Drive - it's supposed to be the latest and this is where I run into an issue: The 'About Rex' tab on the RHS o
  6. I'm going to start this thread while I'm waiting for P3D to Uninstall - takes forever. I've already restored my scenery/texture files using the Rex procedure and then backed everything up in P3D. The reason for all this activity is that Rex Essentials didn't work in my P3D sim. I started this with the intention of going to the PMDG 777 and got keen on seeing some better upper air textures. After an initial glitch where Rex would not recognize my account for P3D, which was solved by the boys at Rex, I found that a lot of the advertised functionality within Rex just didn't work. Principally, the
  7. Thanks Brett, I might be better off with an entirely new post as this one is deviating substantially from the original (mostly my fault - lazy). I'm going to try a bit more today before making any other posts. Basically: I can see no evidence that Rex Essentials is even working. In fact, there's evidence that it is not - "Fly Now" does absolutely nothing, the flight planning stuff is not working at all. Unfortunately, I have to go out o town on Tuesday and won't be able to get back to this for most of the rest of the month. I'm going to shuffle o
  8. Issue resolved. The dev got back this morning with the fix. Now I've got to delve into the setup side. Should be fun.
  9. I'm in the process of converting (some of) my vlying, Brian's term, to P3D. This process is reminiscent of setting up FSX over the years to suit my brand of simming. One of the things I do is spend a lot of time in the IFR environment. I choose to vly using real-world wx in most cases. This means that I'm using electronic approach methods on a pretty regular basis. Now, my home base in most things I do (including AH and AH2) is CYYJ - about 15 miles from my house. CYYJ has suffered under FSX from a programming glitch that dates back to the final days of FSX development. The devs go
  10. Sort of - got a reply from REX. Don't anyone get me started on a rant about using 'forums' to solve issues with software (I'll do that on my own). Where did that business model come from? Appears my problem is a "Tier 2" problem for them, requiring much patience on my part. Strange thing is that from where I'm sitting it's a Tier 1 problem 'cause they got my money, their gadget doesn't work, and I wanna go flying in the clouds. Don't take me seriously - all in fun - 'ya know. It's cold here in sunny, downtown Victoria and I have nothing better to do. I think
  11. I'm having fits with the Rex install. Too bad, but Joe's advice came a bit too late - I'd already purchased and (as described below) tried to install Rex Essentials with overdrive. Also, just when I need advice, Rex is doing an upgrade or something to their forum site and it is down. What's happened is that I downloaded and installed reams of .cab files (took a while) and an installer for the Rex GUI. Because I was doing this for P3D I purchased the P3D license and received an email confirmation of payment - also an email confirmation for the RE+O with appropriate registration numb
  12. It's the Saitek drivers, Wain. Hard to track them all down and kill them. Best done through control panel - I just uninstalled all of the Saitek drivers and let windoze supply the default drivers. That seems to solve the problem. Just watch out for 'automatic' updates discovering that you have a Saitek device on your machine and , horror of horrors, no matching driver.
  13. Got that issue solved - drivers again! Where are the darn thing coming from? Any way, started with Rex Essentials. Wow! Been at least an hour now and still downloading.
  14. Thanks, @Joe Lawford, looking that way for sure. Probably needs to be set in a different post, but I've had issues with my Cessna Trim Wheel and P3D, as well as problems with the PMDG 737NG and the trim wheel - I've got to get that one put to bed, first. Seems every time I try to switch back and forth between the sims I get this issue. I've long ago removed all of the Saitek drivers, the key to the problem, but like the proverbial 'bad penny' the issue keeps coming back. I'm studying my notes right now. I've got to get P3D stable before I go any further. No WiFi on the sim computer

  16. I'm just coming in to this thread. The 777 has been on my mind for a while now and one of the items mentioned in the Airline2Sim dissertation on the install is the use of Active Sky and Rex (neither of which are mounted on my FSX platform). I'm giving a lot of thought to doing a big jump - from FSX to P3D (which I have and don't use, yet) just for the 777. There's evidently some substantial gains to be had by using P3D and the cost of the 777 justifies the switch. I've been resisting the change more because I've finally got FSX and FSUIPC running to my immense satisfaction. Time to

    VR is here!

Is that the final word, JG? If it is, that's terrible. Windoze Virus strikes again! Can the hardware company not simply re-install the O/S? Worst case might be to supply a new disk, install the O/S and then clone your software. I'm afraid I've not got the experience with this particular problem, but years of computer use have seen quite a few similar. I'm not sure how Windoze handles the registry, but it seems to me that a complete re-install of all your software is out of line. As them about a RAID system - if nothing else this would (might) prevent another occurrence.

Just one of them. Many years ago my father told me: "Son, you can never have too many boats". Wise council, indeed.

    VR is here!

Thanks JG, Clear. I'm now real anxious to find the financing to get started on this project. First up is buying a computer with enough muscle to handle the OR. I might have to sell a boat (he says as he goes into withdrawal).

    VR is here!

Great video. That certainly shows the process for using FlyInside. See, flying a tube 'o 'chairs isn't so hard after all. Some more questions: Can you go to full screen to get rid of the flickering menu bar at the top of the screen? Or, is that a function of the video-making process (the flickering)? Can you lean forward (or something else) to get a better view of the instrumentation. Maybe it's easy to see when wearing the OR making this unnecessary, but it looks in the video as if it would be hard to read, for instance; the speed tape or something like the verti

Thanks for the update, JG. Please let us know how you get along with FlyInside. I'm really curious how easy/hard it is to manipulate things like radio/nav tuner knobs. I expect the trimwheel is fairly easy as well as most switches. It is the multi/segment rotaries that worry me. Do you have/fly something like the PMDG 737NG or the Majestic Q400?

Thanks for the concern, Brett. You're talking to a guy who can spend hours hanging upside down fixing stuff in the bilge (at sea). I've yet to find the condition that can make me sick. One of my favorites is turnin' and burnin' in an Extra 300 (not simulated). Try an inverted loop at an aerobatic school near you - ask for the full -4G treatment (don't try this in a C172). That's not to say that the VR thingy could just be the death of me. I guess we'll see. Might take a while, though as the price keeps going up as I find more and more 'necessities' to make this work. The up-front c

I just hate it when I get stymied by things like this. Glad to hear you have a really great supplier in that they will help out with the new card. When I looked into the Occulus Rift (as available in Canada) there was a page of info on prepping your system to use the device. Here's the list as copied from the OR website: Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970/AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater CPU Intel® Core™ i5-4590 equivalent or greater Memory 8GB RAM or more Video Output Compatible HDM
  25. Hiya Cap. Is that the Alabeo or the Eaglesoft? I've seen the Mutley's Review on the Alabeo. Sure looks like a fun addition to any hangar. Has anyone tried the Eaglesoft version? Any comments, pro or con, for one or the other?
