Denham Airfield mid-aid crash avoided - PC12 and C152
dodgy-alan replied to Dean33's topic in Real World Aviation
I'm noit at all surprised, I Learnt to fly there in the late 70s, It's a real pig of an airfield due to it's location. It sits in a small area at the top of the Heathrow control zone meaning that when you take off you HAVE to turn north to avoid Heathrows wrath! I strayed into the area once, fortunately my instructor spotted the problem as LHR started whining! Also approaching the airfield you are not allowed to fly over Harefield Hospital which means a restricted approach. There are also high trees skirting the airfield so that beginning a take off run can be fun as you don't always see appr -

Highly unlikely I should think Joe, we may get smaller gatherings but not on that scale. Matt Jones and the team at Boultbees did a fantastic job of getting all the pilots and aircraft together. Prince Harry missed his flight as the aircraft he was due to go up in had a problem and although he was offered a seat in one of the Boultbee aircraft he gave it up for a 95 year old veteran. One thing photos can't show is the sound of all those engines, talk about giving one goosebumps! I'm just glad I was able to be part of it.

And those two outside the clubhouse were taking a keen interest as well!

That dodgy pair were in the back of my PA28 at Enstone, they weren't invited and appeared to be communicating with someone on the outside!

Today marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. To Commemorate the event , the Boultbee Flight academy and others put together the largest gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes ever seen since WW2. 36 aircraft were flying including 6 Hurricanes, 1 Blenhiem and P51 Mustang. Also present but not flying were at least 3 Harvards, 1 Avro Anson, 1 percival Proctor, 1 DH Dominie and what appeared to be a Beech Kansan/Expediter.( There were several helicopter cameraships, one of which was used by Channel 4. A Piper Aztec was also doing camera shoots off the coast.) They took off in groups

Great pics, the Mooney looks interesting, that Aeronca reminds me of some breeds of moth with a similar shaped nose!

It looks like that was one very lucky escape, I bet GEs boffins will be crawling all over this one for months, as will BAs engineers and maintainence guys. That engine and its paperwork will come under the minutest scrutiny. BA are well known for being meticulous in their servicing and record keeping, now those records will be pored over looking for clues.

Most of the time I number them before loading to PB and that works, but for this job I forgot to do that and so ended up with the pics mixed up.
