There is a way of doing what you suggest for FSX stuff mate, was reading about it the other night. But yeah, these new VFR photo scenery add-ons take up a lot of space and managing, I should be receiving the VFR Scottiish South vol 8 scenery tomorrow if our Postie does his job, so I'm on my FSX PC doing some maintenance and looking at available HD space for its 55 GB needed space and where I will install it. As an example, this is what I do ... I have Win 7 64 OS on one SSD (60GB OCz Agility 3) my main FSX drive I treated myself to a pretty expensive OCz Vertex 3 240 GB, looking at my curren

Are A320 sidesticks force sensing? For sure the X-65F is a lot of fun with Falcon 4 BMS 4.32

Thinking about it again ... I think a lot of Flight sim enthusiasts including me (especially those of us who were in the series from early days) took it for granted that there would always be a Flight Simulator successor, it was for a long long time a two year holding pattern for each release (near enough) and when the news that Aces were sacked well into the making of what would have been FS11 it was a bit of a shock for flight simulator series addicts like me, if things had went as they did we'd probably be onto FS12 by now and looking at FS13 or more!! But nothing lasts forever ... and you

Thought I'd have a stab at selling my Saitek X-65 F force feedback HOTAS after the success of selling a video card here. I hardly used it to be honest and my picture is of it when I un-boxed it, I've lost the plastic palm rest to the right of the stick in my picture, also had to drill a couple of holes in the base plate for the stick to bolt to my HOTAS holder, the sides of the throttle and stick base have a little paint worn off with my chair sliding into position, otherwise it works perfectly. I made more comfortable hard foam palm spacers for the stick to use in place of the plastic stick

No worries Devon, your as entitled to your opinion as anyone else. I was pretty dissapointed when it was confirmed the direction MS are going with Flight but I quickly got over it, its still nice to vent or even just discuss with other enthusiasts though I too will be downloading it on or around its release but honestly don't expect much more than a fun half hour and then quickly bore of it, but if others love it, all good and well ... just that I'd be very surprised if it takes off the way MS expect it to, and they must expect it to be a big success or they would never have went this far.
-
Oh well, the release date is not far off now ... I'll download it for a look have a little fun, but I expect that's as much as I'll do and as much as the majority of MS's target audience will do too before forgetting about it. I seriously think they have got their arithmetic and public research wrong on this project. Microsoft have rarely apart from MS Flight sim series and an RPG of name that alludes me just now .. made a game that was a success, the RPG they made was a big success as was the FS series, but they chose to dumb down the RPG and apparently its now floundering, what can we expec

No worries Brian. I wish I had your electronic skillls ... I have a blown PSU here from a friends comp ( I like to help friends and family fix their PC's ) that seems borked but might be something simple, I've left it unpowered to discharge for a few weeks now and the original PC has a new PSU, might pull it apart to see if there is something obvious like a blown internal fuse (I've seen that before with hi fi amps and suchlike) if so it will power some parts I've got lying around to build another PC. I once fixed an old Sony 20"" CRT monitor that over age grew too bright by soldering a resi

Glad you got it fixed Brian, when I read this I was thinking, uh oh, hope its nothing to do with our recent graphic card deal, but reading on I realised it was an old post bumped

Interesting points, I've not seen my 8GB of ram anywhere near max utilisation on any thing I do with my Sandy Bridge I72600K rig and even 6GB on my I7 920 rig is comfortably within ram limits for what I do and both use Win 7 64 bit as OS but I've been considering going to 16GB on my SB rig if it wont interfere with my overclock too much, for sure if you are not overclocking then go for 16GB as the price is pretty cheap just now ... 8GB dual channel should be a realistic minimum for Z68 chipsets or 6GB tri channel as a minimum for Z58 chipsets on 64 bit OS's and we really should all be using 64

Flightstore got this scenery in today apparently so I'm really looking forward to flying with this scenery early next week and reading Brian's forthcoming review Now I wonder how long for the remaining two volumes for Scotland?

Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures, I'm a keen astronomer too and recently parted with my 6" reflector to spur me on to get a decent go to scope ... I'm missing the scope just now as the southern sky's have been pretty interesting with Mars and the Moon popping up later. I voted for Messier 31 my avatar picture and forum name What a sight it would be to see M31 merge with our Milky Way galaxy in the future, pity nobody will be round to see it unless we can migrate away from our Solar System at least.

FS2 was my first version of the Flight simulator series too, it was not the first one in the series that got me hooked though.

Anyone recognise the scenery due to Flight sim ... i can

I'd do the same but I'm afraid I'd end up looking like a right plonker!

Been looking at this guys antics again, and yes he's a nutter But if he manages to survive in the same way Steve Irwin kept pushing his luck, he'll have great storys and videos to show his grand children. or they will just be told about him. For what its worth, I like him, his zest for life and laugh is infectious

I feel your pain mate, but i do consider the MS OS team as the left hand and the current game flight team as the right hand, in this scenario the left hand knows what its doing and the right hand is floundering around again ... its a communication problem really, Microsoft suits have convinced better attired suits that this garbage called Flight will be a success, they gave a free copy to nay sayers on Avsim under the pretence of beta testing, how could it not be a success:) As regards Win 7, most of us got to test drive this OS for free and if were quick get a license fairly chealy in the op

A little update on the impact of the flooding and what it means to us PC Flight Sim enthusiasts. I'd really like another 2TB HD at last years prices ) http://www.techspot....ch-thai-floods/ 120 GB SSD's are looking very attractive just now, getting on to £1 per GB for some of them.

PS: anyone else recognise this real world scenery from what Flight Sim has shown us?
-
Agreed, but right or wrong, it looks like that is what LM Prapar3D is doing, looking back I'm guessing we were lucky to get acceleration and even FSX SP2, the Flight team (ex ACES guys or not?) dont like admitting to mistakes, this is in direct contrast to Microsofts open and Honest philosophy for the bigger picture ... Windows 8 is out soon for a very public beta test, most of us tried Win 7 this way and its no doubt in my mind Win 7 has went on to be Microsofts best selling OS (even over the longevity of XP) through open and honest public testing and mostly honest marketing.. heck I've got t

Did he kill himself, I hope not. This is not a new sport as we know and I did read of a guy who participated in this sport who died while doing it a while back ... but in a way i admire the freedom they are allowed to do this adrenalin rush type sport, for a young guy it must be the ultimate rush ... it makes bungee jumping look so yesterday, we all think we are invincible when we are young, but when I think back *shudder* to some of my exploits on Motorcycles and what we did on admittedly less busy roads of the time, its amazing I'm still alive. ... did go on to do some track racing at Knock

Well, I'm still not sure about Flight, but I do sometimes still lurk on the Avsim forum for it and reading between the lines I thought I detected there might be a bit more to Flight from the enthusiastic folk there the past week or so than I thought there was to it ... But I'll certainly download the free content for a look, just cant see it taking off for me as a replacement for FSX and I don't think its intended to be. The beauty of past MS Flight Simulators was it had the globe modeled and even though most airports were basic they were there, how long is it going to take to do this with Fl

GTX 570 SC now sold to Needles with our arrangement Thanks Brian -
Just got a notification of a guy selling a used VR Insight GPS 5 on the bay and noticed he was selling off his Saitek panels and some other stuff too, I already have that gear but thought it might be of interest to folk here. The GPS 5 is only the third second hand one I've seen for sale on the bay due to my notifications (I got the second one half price) they are very expensive brand new, no idea what this one will go for of course, but if anyone was interested its worth a looksie http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/titaniumray/m.html?hash=item35b943e9ed&item=230741502445&pt=UK_Computing_Com

Just had a thought regarding Cessna labels and suchlike, what about buying one of those life size Cessna cockpit posters you see on Flightstore and scanning or cutting out the labels, warning signs ETC and maybe laminate them? Cheers.
