Orbx Releases FTX: EU Ireland

Recommended Posts

FTX EU IRL has taken a team of developers over five months to produce. It is the Fifth region in our European series as we continue to recreate magnificent places to fly.Ireland is an island to the north-west of continental Europe and is the third-largest island in Europe. To its east is the island of Great Britain, from which it is separated by the Irish Sea.

FTX EU IRL includes a range of custom-built landscapes including farmland, plains and rolling hills to recreate the luscious green terrain that Ireland is known for. Assortments of urban landscapes are included, exemplifying the variation found between urban areas.

The landclass textures are drawn from aerial and satellite photography of Ireland and hand placed so as to accurately render the visual environment. The region pack models most of the aeronautical hazards, obstacles and cultural features mapped in the VFR charts for Ireland.

Over 30 registered airfields have been enhanced to closely match their real-world cou nterparts. Many of the countries’ famous landmarks have been custom modeled and accurately hand placed inside the simulator. A must have addition to FTX Northern Ireland!

- Perfect addition to the EU series!

- Hand-placed landclass covers every sq km

- Numerous polygon landclass areas

- Accurate roads, railway, rivers, lakes

- Brand new ground textures

- Custom autogen textures and objects

- Over 70,000 sq km of scenery

Those two are in the bag then!

That release is a bit left field.  I haven seen any hype about it. On the other hand, vectors was trumpeted around a couple of months ago and that seems to have gone into hiding.

Its the same with Open CL Europe, that has been coming soon for ages!

John,

You can find progress updates on the Orbx Forums under the General Discussion section.  The link below is a general update on the range of products.  There is a further slip of FTX Global VECTORS to early 2014.  Be aware you may need to be logged in to the Orbx Forum site to view the General Discussion section.  You will also note, whilst Orbx provide projected dates, these are never guaranteed for various production reasons, just like any software company e.g. the release of the boxed version of Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended was originally slated for mid Sep 13, three date changes later, it finally made it on 03 Dec 13.

Cheers

Where did you find that piece of disappointing information Andrew?? Can't find it mentioned on their forum, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

Do hope they extend the promised 10% price reduction offer that is on display right now...

Funny thing, in flying all over the world in FSX, I don't remember ever flying much into Ireland. Could be that in default FSX the scenery was not very entertaining and I moved on to more mountainous regions. Might have to rethink that decision now that ORBX is involved. :D

As to Vectors, I got this off the Pilots site. Aren't these the folks that are partnered with ORBX/FTX? Is this product different then the one ORBX is releasing?

HOT NEWS

DECEMBER 3rd:
We are deep into the beta test, aiming at a "shortly before X-Mas release", and manually correcting lots of data anomalies. In the screenshot section we have posted some nice shots ...

OVERVIEW
FS Global Vector is a worldwide Vector scenery. Vector scenery will bring you coastlines, streets, lakes, rivers, railways, highways, powerlines, parks, woods and much more. As additional benefit we have adapted airport altitudes to fit mesh scenery such as FS Global 2010 or Ultimate. The use of AFM will be obsolete, if you have FS Global Vector installed. The new coastlines will fit to FS Global 2010 and Ultimate. "Cut through" mesh, creating steep coasts will be a thing of the past.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMING RELEASE
Version 1.0 Build #001 should be out shortly before X-Mas through The FlightSimStore for download. Get FS Global 2010 FTX edition now to create the ideal base for FS Global Vector! A boxed version is scheduled for early 2014.

I already have FTX Northern Ireland, so I calculate that FTX Republic of Ireland would cost me $40.95AUD - ($32.95AUD x 0.45) = $26.12AUD/exchange rate (1.83) = £14.27. That's considerably less than the price that I paid for FTX Northern Ireland.

The quote for me when I logged in at FlightSimStore.com was £12.67 :)

I assume you accepted their generous offer, Kevin? :)

On a side note, getting FTX Republic of Ireland has allowed me to think about getting a handful of extra large airports for my collection. Aerosoft's Dublin X is very definitely on my list now, and I have been looking at Eiresim's Cork Ultimate. To be honest, if I was beta testing the latter, I would have asked them to add lots more "clutter". The screenshots show a large car parking area without a single 3D car in sight! I would fill that car park, and also add lots of other objects (those red and white no go boards, trucks, containers, and other miscellaneous bits and pieces that I can see in the high resolution photo base image). In fact, I may just do that if I decide to buy the airport, because I have access to the UK2000 object database ;) The one aspect that worries me is the rather crude way that Eiresim "cut off" the edges of the photo image. I remember Luton Ultimate only too well, although this time I would be attempting to blend with landclass scenery rather than photoscenery.

I notice that Eiresim also have Shannon Ultimate, but there is something about that one that just doesn't look right to me. Maybe it's the lack of a photo base image? I don't know, but it just looks a bit "basic" and bland in the screenshots that I have seen...
