hurricanemk1c 195
G'day all, Having been kicking my heels for weeks waiting for John (who ended up in prison, as always), it was time to move on. Considering the fast entry made by John in order to get away from Putinfeld and Co., I made alternative arrangements to speed away from Scherger. The planned BAe 146 wasn't going to be fast enough for me. John finally arrived in the Typhoon - an impressive bit of kit, with lots of nice shiny weapons. My ride wasn't loaded up yet, so a few drinks (non-alcoholic for me, don't drink anyway) were had and tales related, whilst the baton was passed onto me. The RAF wanted to be away quickly, so John was smuggled back out of Australia in the back of a Hercules, leaving me, my navigator and the few RAAF personel to sort the next leg out. Any guesses on the aircraft type? Although offically scrapped and never produced, various UFO sightings both in the UK and Australia have been made, all resembling the Avro 730, the aircraft intended to replace the V-Force. Luckily for me and the challenge, they went into secret production and are about to be withdrawn, hence the ability to do the leg in this Mach 3 aircraft Painted in the RAE colours of 'raspberry ripple', one of the most striking features of the airframe is the lack of windows. Vision is through TV cameras and this would be my view for the next 45 minutes. Yep - 45 minutes for 1000nm Strapped in, power on and engines lit with a cool greeny afterburner We're quite light so rotated at around 200kts Powering away, the acceleration of this thing is phenomenal. At this point we are approaching Mach 0.9 More UFO sightings come in as we rapidly climb up to around 70,000ft. Come and get me Putinfeld! Still climbing at 60,000ft The blackness of space is clearly visible from this shot, and one few pilots have seen Time for a final zoom up to test height. Got up to 80,000ft where we stalled - at around 1000kts! Zooming over commercial traffic at around 1400kts, 65,000ft Engines on idle as we descend downards Dropping down over the island, still doing around 600kts. It's a very slippery aircraft and difficult to slow down Flaps are down as is the gear on a curving approach Missed! One problem of the video cameras is the difficulties in judging height. As a result, I touched down a tad early on the grass. Even then, I just stopped Having turned off, I noticed a black car over in the corner. I secreted the baton somewhere safe that only I could find. As it turned out, very timely and clever. A group of men await my arrival into the 'terminal' Start at 02:08 - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27r14n_blackadder-s02e06-chains_shortfilms Aircraft used: Kazunori Ito's Avro 730, updated for FSX To be continued next section..... Captain Coffee 2,030
Ouch...hope the lump on your head heals fast...should have listened to Baldrick. Very interesting plane. I would NOT like that view screen arrangement unless they install some wider monitors...looks rather restricted as is. On the edge of the seat waiting to find out the results of your (hopefully not a) terminal encounter.
brett 2,315
Just plain happy you didn't kill yourself in that thing, PIREP is getting interesting and looking forward to whatever comes your(and our) way.
J G 927
The old black car and a group of men eh! If one of them has a monocle and a facial scar and is holding a white moggy then my advice to you is to do a runner before your meet in the terminal becomes terminal for you! Great PIREP Kieran and it is nice to read about the UFO reports in the Didgeridoo Daily,
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
Well done, Kieran — wild horses couldn't drag me into the pilot's seat of that thing, so I can only add to the chorus of congratulation on your survival of the, er, experience! Special congratulations on getting John strapped into the back of a Herc and out of Oz. By the time the ringing in his ears subsides, with any luck he'll be far away from any immediate danger of incarceration, for once. All in all, a great result! Cheers, bruce a.k.a. brian747
mutley 4,498
Congratulations Chuck! That brings us nicely to the end of this section. All ATWC pilots can take a weeks break from being on stand by as our controller is on holiday for a week! I'm sure Micke will get section 4 up and running as soon as he can.
