Boats, stunts or just plain great scenery is the order of the day! Captain Coffee 2,030 Posted November 2, 2015 Report Share Posted November 2, 2015 Obviously, I have a penchant for collecting Odd Happenings Around Bridges thanks to my self appointed role as SF Bay Area Bridge Aerial Inspector... This is a rare historic shot of what was called the San Francisco Experiment...an attempt to make an invisible helicopter using huge Capacitance/Magneto/Static generators slung from the struts to look like floats. It instead set off a resonant frequency within the atomic structure of the test bed chopper and confused the pilot's ability to control the craft, with this result...it fortunately flew completely through the pylon and landed safely. The goal of invisibility was never realized...and the project was abandoned. The pilot suffered from high iron levels in his blood stream ever after and died a few years later from complications related to hardened arteries. (groan) 1 Link to post Share on other sites
