Leg 44. Houston Intercontinental to Cancun

Recommended Posts

After hearing JG's story and getting a hold of the baton I had a stroll to the Anson. Russian spies did not have to hijack a plane to get anywhere, Russian mobsters did...
So I went in and looked for whatever the Ruskie and the Brit who was going to dismantle the plane were hiding.
To me it was obviously a deal gone bad.
Not having found anything uin the plane I then went to the Madisonville airstrip. Unfortunately I was not the only one and I spend the next couple of days explaining to some suits that I was not Ennemy of the State no.1.
Eventually they believed me, sort of...

They brought me back to Houston and let me leave for Mexico. The only caveat was that I had to take one of them with me. Their trust was limited to where they could see me.
If everything turned out to be fine in Cancun I was of the hook.

With the DA40 I had planned to fly over water. For this I had to wait for perfect weather and count on my luck to make it.
After some consideration I decided that I liked living a bit too much to take such a gamble and so I went for option two. The long way around.

Since this was all over land I did not have to wait for the weather but I would like something with enough speed and range: hence the Corvalis (Sorry 'bout that Micke - but it is in the weight restriction).

So I went to prepare the Corvalis together with my guard / passenger. I filled her up to the brim and hoped to go as far as possible.
Strange thing was that the passenger did not want to arrive in daylight, so I planned the trip accordingly.

We left Houston late in the afternoon in order to arrive after dark and away we went.

The corvalis is a quick plane and we were over the coastline in no time. She behaved impeccable.

Since we had to arrive after dark we had the luck to see an amazing sunset

And soon we were flying the little Cessna in the dark.

It was a good thing we had the IFR capable Corvalis because we needed those those capabilities later when we had to fly near a thunderstorm.

Eventually we ran out of gas just short of Cancun and we had to land at Merida.

We spent the next day there in order to once again arrive after dark at Cancun.

As planned we arrived after dark

I parked the plane and went looking for Kieran, to my amazement he was waiting for us at the bar.

Luckily Kieran corroborated my story and I was free to go.

The plane is the Alabeo Corvalis.

Good flight, Kasper, especially in the dark.    :)

Your account left just one question in my mind:

> "So I went to prepare the Corvalis together with my guard / passenger. I filled her up to the brim and hoped to go as far as possible."

OK, but.... By "her" did you mean the Corvalis — or the passenger?     :P

Sounds like fun, either way.     ^_^

Cheers,

Great story Kasper, and great to have you back in the fray.

I'm really enjoying the Corvalis as well so you're excused for the late change of airplane ;)

Now to get that departure board updated (and make sure I put the correct month in as well......)
