hurricanemk1c 195
Martin Mars there Quickmarch! One big, red and white thing - how did she sound?
Quickmarch 488
Over to Clem Wu..........first one in although the time hack shows 8:43 (here) for both. Sounded like a radial symphony. Nothing like round engines and this aircraft has 4 of the biggest made. I was sailing in Cowichan Bay, on the East side of Vancouver Island when this lady wafted down to pick up 30 tons of water to drop on a local fire. These aircraft were a regular sight in our area as they were owned by a consortium of British Columbia forestry companies and used to protect the forests against fire. The big flying boats were based on Sproat Lake which is a few miles inland from the Vancouver Island east coast not far from Comox. A regular acquaintance of mine who flew 747's for Cathay Pacific retired and had been flying the Mars for a while when I left Vancouver Island in 2007. If you're interested in a bit of their history, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_JRM_Mars Cheers, March

Dizzy 0
All right. After some issues with photobucket, I've got my airplane.

allardjd 1,853
That's going to be a tough one - it puts me in mind of a glider in a way... John
Quickmarch 488
Or something from Burt Rutan or Jim Bede
allardjd 1,853
It appears to be aluminum, which Rutan is kind of allergic to... John
CSoul 182
A-10 Thunderbolt?
Dizzy 0
Correct CSoul. It is the A-10 Thunderbolt. What you are looking at is the right wheel and the IFF system. You can tell it's the IFF because it has the black covering the other side has the single point refueling system.
CSoul 182
This is a, hopefully, tricky one. It is obvious what this is; but then again, it might not be. I'm looking for the manufacturer and name.
allardjd 1,853
Dassault Mirage
rob16584 42
grr I should've got that one Sean!
Dizzy 0
My first guess is Dassault Mirage IIIRS. But the nose doesn't look right.
Andrew Godden 945
It could be an IAI Kfir, but that, also, would be too obvious, and the vertical stabiliser isn't right anyway. So, I will go with the Atlas 'Cheetah', and from the looks of things, it's the 'C' variant, manufactured by the Atlas Aircraft Corporation (also known as Atlas Aviation) and later becoming part of Denel Aviation.
