mutley 4,498
October's theme is Cold War being the years 1953–1962 as described by Wikipedia. I would like to see shots of what aircraft would be typical of those years, any type of aircraft. The competition ends 31st Oct 2012 23:59 UTC Good luck and please read the rules! http://forum.mutleys...-contest-rules/ PS, this site may help? http://www.militaryf...ar-aircraft.asp

stu7708 244
Some great shots so far this month, even if there aren't that many yet.. But I need to get my priorities straight and take part here.. it's been a while since I gave it a try... got a few ideas for what to do at least, now all that remains is to install the proper aircraft and fire up FRAPS
hurricanemk1c 195
I've got some, prehaps suprising, aircraft of the Cold War up my sleeve......
brett 2,316
Does the cold war with the Klingons count?
dodgy-alan 1,587
I think thats pushing the boundaries, But Gene Roddenberry was definately having a pop at the various governments when Star Trek was launched, though few people realised it at the time. The Cold War generally refers to the stand off between Nato and the Warsaw Pact countries in the late 50s, 60s and 70s.
brett 2,316
That Gene was a regular rebel. I will look for something more in line with the rules but with time warps and such, who knows, it might even still be a legal entry.......

jankees 917
here is my second shot: the Catalina, especially in Swedish colors, may not be an obvious choice for a cold war aircraft, but this aircraft was in fact in the middle of an important cold war incident, in which two Swedish aircraft, a DC-3 and a Catalina, were shot down by Russian MiG's. The DC-3 was recently recovered and is now one of the main diplays in the Swedish Air Force Museums in Linkoping. If you are ever in the neighbourhood, make sure you check this out. The incident became known as the Catalina affair, so I hope this shot will qualify...
stu7708 244
Darn it JanKees.. I was going to use that story and your repaint for my entry
jankees 917
oh dear, I do apologise...but you can still use the catalina, just make a better shot? Here is my final shot, no story, just a shot I like of the Douglas Skyraider:
saunder 3
Here is my first one for a very long time and its got to be the Vulcan I used to see it fly on a regular basis used as a flying test bed with a rollsroyce engine sitting on its back. There is just something about those awsome wings and when you stand underneath it at Duxford Museum it really does make you realise how awsome it is. John

Soya 7
Here are my entries for this month Cold war Theme: The roar of the mighty B-52: An F-14 'Tomcat' looking for prey: And a Russian Mig-15 reading for take-off from a secret Russian airbase on June 16, 1952, its orders are to find and intercept JK's Swedish Catalina. Best of luck all.
hurricanemk1c 195
Here is my three for this month Spitfire Twilight - the Irish Aer Corps purchased these in 1951 and lasted until 1961. They also used de-navalised Seafires (more info on the Irish Aer Corps - http://www.military.ie/air-corps/history) The classic cockpit of the massive Tu-114, less famous than the Russian 'Bear', which spawned from it. Looks nice and homely, don't you think? And finally, from the new ACG RAF Marham 1993 scenery, two Victors doing something both hard and highly dangerous - I'm refuelling from a wing pod. There's only 51ft of line from that Mk20B pod, compared with the near 80ft of the centre line HDU, which was used in the Black Buck missions Good luck folks!
