Product Review Orbx 2WA1 Diamond Point Airport
stu7708 replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
Great review Rob. Looks like a nice little place to go flying from. @Joe: How did you manage to pin this scenery as being "Down under"? Isn't the PNW area rather a long way from Auzzie land? -
Well, having the best fall weather I can remember up here in the northern parts of europe I had to go elsewhere for some bad weather, and ended up in the cessna 208 over the Pacific Fjords area. Departing PAKT, with atleast a low cloud layer (Broken @ 2000) and some rain. And some of those clouds were actually rather dark too.. They claim there's a few high mountains around here, but if I can't see them they can't hurt me... right??? All shots unedited with the exception of a slight crop to get rid of the menu bar...

The version I downloaded did have support for FSX but I think it was on beta-stage then. Problem is I can't even get it to run on it's own. They claim that the next version will solve the issues with the i-series processors.

Great shots Tim, looking forward to more

Anyone having difficulty starting the J41?
stu7708 replied to UKJim's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
I know the feeling. We just bought a house, so there's plenty of black holes where the money can disapear.... -
Didn't get it to work at all Dai. There was some issue with the installer of the API that caused big issues with newer processors as far as I could gather... But considering it's been a year since I tried it there might be some updates to try...

I've never been there myself, but judging by photos around the web it really is that yellow Shot on wiki Shot on panoramio

Anyone having difficulty starting the J41?
stu7708 replied to UKJim's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
No problem, as others have said we are here to help The marshaller comes with the package. I can't remember if you can opt out of installing during the installation process or not, but you can always chose not to use it within the simulator. -
Time to revive this thread again. As of yesterday the last part (Malmö-Sturp airport ESMS) of the first release of this scenery-project went out to the Beta-team. Screenshots from the Beta release of the airport can be found here. Hopefully they can get this thing out before christmas, and I will dig into a review as soon as I can find the time for it.

Anyone having difficulty starting the J41?

If you do get it working without OOM crashes there's one more add-on you might consider that is specifically tailored for the J41. It's called FS2Crew and gives you a virtual First Officer that can help you with the tasks a First Officer usually does in the plane. There's two versions of the program. One with voice control and one with button control. Rob did a review of the Voice controlled version a while back. I'm using the button control version since Windows speech recognition won't work on non-english versions of Windows -
Couple of REX V2 (FSX) Questions

Or if you want textures, roads, coastlines and mesh in one product get any of the ORBX/FTX regions. (Actually for the Australia region you need to download a separate Mesh, but it's available free from their site). -
About a week ago PMDG expanded the 737NGX fleet with a 6/700-series expansion. I was planning to share my first full flight in the -600 with you guys, but when I peeked into the screenshots folder after the flight there were no pictures there... turns out I forgot to start FRAPS so no screenshots were captured. With the clock approaching midnight I won't redo the flight, but I figured I could atleast do one shot for you. Here's the baby boeing an early morning at Oslo Gardemoen (ENGM) preparing for a short flight to Stockholm Arlanda (ESSA). If I get some time during the weekend there mi

Brilliant, just brilliant. -
Welcome Jim I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here. Most of us are easy to get along with And I think your right on your joystick lacking twist grip. I took a look at logitechs website before reading your response, and there's no mention of that function on the product page. And since everybody keeps hinting on add-ons to get I can chip in with AirHauler from JustFlight. While it adds no scenery to FSX it's a great way to discover new places, and avoid getting to repetitive in your locations.

While I agree with Alan on the spectacular views and sceneries up north I feel the default terrain mesh in FSX doesn't do the location justice. But it might be better in FS9 that Alan uses. The difference compared with the FS Global mesh is like night and day...

Time to do some real weather flying in the PNW and Pacific Fjords area I think

I can only agree on what David is saying on the banning. As for other bans I think I remember one or two that's been banned and published in the forum since I joined about 2,5 years ago. But those was more along the lines of regular spammers posting more or less suspect links with little or no relevence to flight sims.

Just like mixing up the UK and Ireland But it was a nice link. They had quite a few swedish sceneries too, much to my delight.

Some food for thought on that site, thanks for sharing. Considering your intrest in the subject I'm guessing you've already read it, but if not (and for the benefit of anyone else that want to learn more on this stuff) I can recommend Stephen Hawkings book "A brief history of time". It took some time to read it, but it gives some insight in to the subject in a way that most people can grasp.

The Orbx festive season begins Nov 1st!
stu7708 replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
I doubt all of them will actually be released come tuesday. The first preview shots of Kiwi-land that I've seen was posted yesterday, and they were said to be Beta shots, with more work needing to be done... So I guess they will start taking pre-orders for it.. But I wont be complaining if I'm wrong -
Product Review Flight1 Cessna T182T Skylane
stu7708 replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
Great review Tim. I've been looking for a good model GA with a good glass panel for a while (personally I tend to prefer those over steam guages for some reason), so this one is going on to my "To get-list". -
That plane is always involved in stunning screenshots..
-
That's the incident I was talking about, but from a camera angle I hadn't seen before. After reading up a bit on it the pilot didn't eject that time, but survived with only minor injuries... and I'm sure it was the same guy. He took some rather harsh critisism over crashing two planes, and both of them infront of TV-cameras And considering that a contributing factor was faulty programming in the Fly-by-wire software it was prehaps a bit more harsh than he deserved..

I've had no issues with the Orbx scenery working with AH, but AH will only find "Listed Airports" with a proper AFCAD file. In the Pacific Fjords scenery there's a bunch of Unlisted Airstrips that AH won't find because they are only painted into the scenery with a texture and lack a proper AFCAD. But there's still plenty of airports to choose from
