  1. On a happier note.. On this day in history The crew and passengers had a fair bit of pray time, but thankfully the expertise of the pilot came out tops... 2011 forced landing of the LOT 767 after undercarriage failure. Have a great day all :-) Steph
  2. Thats what I was thinking too...maybe its psycological thing and people don't like facing backwards but if its safer why hasnt it been adopted. ?.food for thought. :-) Steph
  3. Forty fives ...vinyl records fir those of you that don't remember anything prior to cds
  4. My first holiday abroad when I was about 6 was in Majorca and that was on Dan "Dare" Air. I can't remember what ac it was but I have a b&w photo somewhere.. thought it was a BAC-111 but will have to dig it out to check. My husband was Air Force Fire and he flew to Belize on a BAC-111...apparently all the seats faced backwards. Having an interest in "survival factors" it certainly sounded safer that way round. Do flight attendants face the rear so we can see the calming expressions when we hit turbulence?? Always been curious about that.. hummmmm....
  5. Thanks John. Was obviously far too excited with the Return button ;-)Steph
  6. Citizen .... as in (Smith) leader of the Tooting popular front. A great comedy from the late 70s
  7. Ps. love the P3 Orion Pics Dodgy-Alan.. also noticed the Nimrods in the background. Always had a soft spot for the Nimrod given its links to the Comet. Do you fly a freeware Nimrod or are they AI eye candy?
  8. Reckon it was all just an excuse for people to say that they weren't going to work because the news channels had told them to not travel unless absolutely necessary.. Total poppyc*ck! OK, I've got 4 fence panels down in my garden and most of the apples on my apple tree are now scattered around the cul de sac, but it was a bit of a non event
  9. Lets hope Microsoft are far too engrossed weakly waving a banner for Windows (hate) 8 than spoiling all the fun for thousands of FSX users who just want to continue to use it... I live in hope!
  10. That's the one Joe! No idea how long its been there, but I spotted it a few months back. Will have to see whats on the plaque sometime (on the way to the pub!)
  11. Yep, I remember the Gnat as well. I'm thinking of the aircraft on top of the pedestal on the grass verge just opposite the CooperVision building and the fire station. Its on the corner of Aquila Road and Hamble Lane. You can just about see it on Google Street View. It looks like a Spit but not 100% sure. Re the Flying school across from the canteen, I remember that well. When I was a young sprout I always wondered what it would be like to take lessons. I worked at a small Tour Operator based in a Portakabin just next to the security barrier, and then at a warehouse which is now part of the
  12. Interesting, i ddn't realise there was one there. I know there are 2 at the Solent Sky museum and there is a small one on Hamble Lane in Hamble le Rice. There was talk of a Spitfire memorial at Trafalgar park but not sure its even built yet. Will have a look next time im over there. Steph
  13. Such a shame about the comet.. the idea was great. Glad they managed to keep that idea alive with the Nimrod..
