BAE Taranis - Autonomous Stealth Attack Plane
ddavid replied to allardjd's topic in Real World Aviation
So, with no pilot, who would you blame for 'co-lateral damage'? Sorry if that sounded a bit cynical but these UAV's move us into a new world of warfare for which there are no moral/ethical guidelines as yet....... Cheers - Dai. -
Looks like a job for...... .....Mower Man!! Nice shots, Richard - thanks for sharing, mate! Cheers - Dai.

When Joe and I went to Weston in May, we met the guys who developed the Dodo-Sim 206 helicopter simulation for FSX. Mark Adams and Simon Robbins had aimed to produce as realistic a helicopter simulation as was possible and their demonstration certainly showed that they had succeeded. I was so impressed that I purchased the Dodo-Sim 206 on the spot! Now, I confessed to Simon that I'd not had any success with the default FSX rotor-craft and he asked what controls I had as he felt that the realism level of the Dodo-Sim 206 really required some sort of collective throttle. The more I thought about

Hi John and welcome to the Forum - make yourself at home! As to your IE8 problem, why not un-install it (?!?) and see what happens? And, I guess, if you want a browser with all the bells and whistles, why not try Google Chrome? I'm not sure whether the others will agree with that, though..... Cheers - Dai.

In the absence of our cycling correspondent, Phil, can I point you towards an excellent, interactive web page for Le Tour? Just follow the link below and select Stage 9, by clicking on the number (9) at the Stage Start, and then click 'Fly along the Route' - all done using Google Earth - pretty impressive and a lot better than the default scenery! Click here for this page on the Guardian's website. Enjoy! Cheers - Dai.

Beer capital of the world? Cheers - Dai.

Mind you don't tread on the orchids, mate! And how many parachutes did you collect - or were they just dead flies on the wind-shield? Excellent shots - as per your usual standard - thanks for sharing. Cheers - Dai.

I guess it is too late for this Section, Aidan, unless someone drops out. But you can suggest this flight as part of the next Section - Rob and Joe are organising this right now, I think. Cheers - Dai.

C'mon Phil - Le Tour is the only sporting event of the year! Although all the great riders have retired - the list starts with Anquetil and ends with Zulle - I still follow the tour via the web. Even makes me go out on the bike - which is no mean feat as we live at the bottom of a 300 foot hill.... Enjoy yourself in Paris, you lucky s*d! Cheers - Dai. P.S. Do post some photo's - that'd be great.

Great idea, Boss! Most of you with FSX will have tried some, or even all of the Missions that were installed with FSX. If you've installed Acceleration, you'll have noticed a whole pile of additional Missions, too. The Mission Engine in FSX is one of it's best features as it introduces you to a whole new chapter in flight sim. I've been trying my hand at Mission building for a few months - after getting hold of Jim Keir's FSX Mission Editor (FSXME) from FSAddon here. It's great fun, somewhat time consuming and very addictive (!), but rewarding, nonetheless. If you want to try out

Vertical Studios release Mountain Flying in Switzerland
ddavid replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
Here are some screen shots from Chris Klein's Mountain Flying in Switzerland Mission..... Just after taking off from Geneva - here's the famous fountain: Flying towards the hills: That's the pass ahead: Wonderful views: Snow on the tops: Lake Geneva agian: More fabulous scenery: Turning into the final valley: The destination airport - starting the downwind leg: Base turn: Final approach: Turning off Runway 25: Find the control tower - and that's it! Mission completion screen: Chris has produced a really excellent Mission, here. The route through the S -
Great shot, Jankees - not many internal models enable you to see the rear fuselage and tail plane from inside - a well made and presented screenshot. As for Simi's remarks, which I, like Rob, have some sympathy for, how's about a competition topic that is from FS9/FSX with default 'everything' - i.e. no add-ons, scenery or aircraft? That should sort out the men from the boys...... And, lastly, a big Thank You to Just Flight, for their continuing sponsorship. Without their support, our Forum's Contest would be just another comp...... Cheers - Dai. :gtfl:

John - the best you can do is to use BglAnalyzeX.exe. This works, somewhat, for scenery 'mdl's but the results are not consistent. When you use this app for aircraft 'mdl's, the result is really incomprehensible due mainly to the complexity of the original - i.e. multiple part copies (engine 1, engine 2, etc), animations, tags for textures, transparency indices, etc. Personally, I wouldn't even consider this approach as it impinges on copyright issues. Best thing is to contact the originator/designer and ask them if they can make the mod for you - or let you have the model in its original FSD

You the Man, Boss - what an epic tutorial on how it should be done! Give my love to Ms S....... Cheers - Dai. P.S. My Dad used to work at C&W on the Embankment - thanks for the memories.

Last attempt from me - gasp! Can I replace my earlier Bomb Aimer's shot with this, please? And, finally, this is what the film recording Lanc pilot saw after the Tirpitz had capsized: Both shots taken from the Catechism Mission..... Cheers - Dai.

Joe and I saw this latest offering, Treescapes UK, from Darren and Vicki at Earth Simulations, at the Weston Flight Sim Show, last month. Believe me, it is brilliant. Basically, Darren has manually added trees, copses, hedgerows and woodland as an overlay to the photographic scenery he helped produce while working at Horizon. Treescapes is compatible with most airfield scenery add-ons too, which makes it even more useful to us 'low and slow' merchants. Well done Darren - and Vicki!! More info here Hopefully, I'll find time to do a quick review - watch this space! Cheers - Dai.

Product Review New Review - Flight1 HeliTraffic 2009
ddavid replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
Now that's a review, John - thanks for taking all that trouble - an excellent job! Having read the Flight-1 description and watched the video - Close or What, Eh?!? - I can see why you flagged up the handling aspects! That, and the detailed descriptions in the rest of your review, have given me a really good insight into the product. Like you, I'm not a helo man, but I recently fell in love with Dodo-Sim's 206, which I purchased from the developers at the Weston Sim Show. No doubt HT2009 will come in real handy when I sort my cyclic from my collective.... Thanks again - terrific stuff, mate! -
Not really a serious entry, but I thought I'd share this with you all: It's a re-furbished B747 engine cowling used as an office reception desk - more info here Cheers - Dai.

'Stay away' by Nirvana  Cheers - Dai.

How's about..... But I guess you were there first, Simi! Cheers - Dai.

We get a few air-borne visitors to the Cwm, some more noisy than others - especially when they 'creep' up on you from over the ridge.... Mainly Hawks, a few Tornado's - they're special, pairs of F-18's (I think), one or two Buccaneers (or very similar) and, tonight..... Coming straight up the valley, making a dickens of a racket, and just managing to get over the hill behind the farm..... Great place to be if you've got a camera to hand! Cheers - Dai.
-
Still reckon this one takes some beating..... BTW, what's the track? (You know he's an old geezer, innit?!? Ed). Cheers - Dai. :nea:

Haven't changed your shorts, then?!? Cheers - Dai.

Could it be your joystick/yoke interfering with your keyboard inputs? Try putting j/y into 'neutral' - otherwise you'll slew inconsistently! Cheers - Dai.

Well, I had an excellent meal at Gupta's house - my host and hostess prepared a huge vegetable curry, with naan and popadoms, helped down with several ice-cold bottles of Kingfisher beer, and finishing off with gajar ka halwa (carrot halva) and ice-cream (not from Yak's milk!) - yum. Gupta had called his brother about my onward flight to Mandalay, and Das had arranged to pick me up in the morning to take me back to Bagdoghra airport. I woke up to a sunny morning and a splendid breakfast of fruit and home made yogurt. Das arrived in his Air India mini-van and, after a somewhat tearful goodbye
