  1. This updated graphic includes the MSFS 2024 Aviator Edition and the 30 additional aircraft are the Local Legends and Famous Flyer aircraft developed by Microsoft/Asobo for MSFS 2020. Note that the development of some of these involved a collaboration with third party developers. Here is the list of the 30 aircraft. Aero Ae-45 / Ae-145 Antonov An-2 Antonov An-225 ATR 42-600 / 72-600 Beechcraft Bonanza V35 Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing Beechcraft Model 18 Twin Beech Bell Helicopter 47J Ranger Boeing 307 Stratoliner Boe
  2. Another great video from the MSFS 2024 Global Preview Event (held in early Sep 24) with interviews with Jorg Neumann (Head of MSFS), David Dedeine (Co-Founder and Creative Director of Asobo Studios), and Sebastian Wloch (Co-Founder and CEO of Asobo Studios). Some great questions with answers and explanations on the various features and technical aspects of MSFS 2024, including why some things just cannot simply be implemented. MSFS 2024 is truly the flight simulator of the future and leaves X-Plane and the other legacy flight simulators in its wake (turbulence)! Cheers Andrew
  3. This short video provides a good side by side comparison of the graphics in MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. These comparison images were officially released by Microsoft at the recent MSFS 2024 Global Preview Event held in early Sep 24. Towards the end of the video is an excellent system specifications chart for NVidia/Intel and AMD based PCs. This chart also includes an answer to the all important bandwidth question. Cheers Andrew
  4. Brett, Following up further, I found some information on the recommended hardware specs for MSFS 2024. It appears your current gaming laptop is close to the recommended spec, albeit short on RAM which is at the minimum level. https://www.flightsimulator.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-faq/ Contrary to my earlier recommendation, for the experience you are looking for, an upgrade to MSFS 2024 is probably worth the investment. The difference between the Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition is minimal, the Deluxe Edition includes everything from the Standard Edition plus ten addi
  5. Brett, In short, no! It is no secret that an objective of MS in developing MSFS 2020 and now MSFS 2024 was for a multi-platform flight simulator. This expanded their customer base to include the younger flight simmer. There is still truth though in the well worn cliche, "Consoles are for kids, PCs are for real simmers!", and there are certainly limitations in the functionality of MSFS on the xBox. MS also set out to creating the truly "next level" flight simulator and one that offered far more than just simple point to point flying. Again, this latter functionality is merely just a p
  6. Really! After flying MSFS 2020 since its day of release, and now with 3,500+ VATSIM flight hours in MSFS 2020, and with hundreds of more hours of multiplayer sessions, the experience matches the concensus and praise of real world pilots. As MSFS 2024 is an iterative development that expands and further builds on MSFS 2020 it is certainly NOT a toy. This has been highlighted extensively by independent reviews, again, including by real world pilots. It expands the whole MS Flight Simulator product concept to being more than just a jump in and fly flight simulator, by adding in adventures,

  8. Chris, Other than an obscure logo in the top right corner of the attached video, your announcement doesn't explicitly state which simulator versions the product is compatible with. With the majority of the current focus of major 3rd party development on MSFS, this can be misleading. I had to go to your Forum release announcement and then to your online shop before I confirmed it is only compatible with the legacy flight sims, and then only the later versions of P3D at that. I might further add that this is further contradicted by the labeling on the top of the product image which dis

Comments: Good detail and simple to build. Various build options, including the option to build and display the internal detail of the gun bays with removable gun bay panels. Not all parts are used and some parts are common across other kits. Introduction Along with the Spitfire, the Hawker Hurricane has been a staple model kit for Airfix fo

  11. What have I done...or got myself into? Decisions, decisions, and even more decisions!!! I blame myself and my OCD, though I cannot be sure if it is the real version or just the Hollywood version...which up until a few years ago, I never knew there was a difference. OK, so the 1:48 scale Airfix kit I received from my daughter somewhat set the baseline for my decisions on scale. My first self imposed rule, therefore, was that I decided 1:48 scale was a good scale for fighters and the old venerable 1:72 scale would be good for bombers or larger aircraft, generally. My logic was that this w

  13. A 21 yr military career where I was moving every two yrs followed by a 10 yr career as a senior executive was never conducive to model building. Now I have the time and the patience that comes with age to be very meticulous. In fact, my professional life was characterised by exacting standards and attention to detail and I'm finding these skills have transferred to my model building as second nature. Another thing from my professional life which holds true in model building is a variation of an original quote by the German Field Marshall, Erwin Rommel, "Time spent in planning is seldom wasted!
  14. Introduction It seems nearly a lifetime ago now when Honeycomb Aeronautical invaded the psyche of the flight simulator community, tempting us with the announcement on the development of their Alpha Flight Controls. After a few years delay, due to Honeycomb refining the design, the community was finally rewarded with the first dedicated and reasonably affordable yoke and switch panel in more than a decade since the launch of the Saitek Pro Flight range. Following on, Honeycomb announced the development of the Bravo Throttle Quadrant, and the flight simulator community was further whipped i
  15. And now for something completely different! Having had the luxury of retiring at the age 47, it's been over 11 years now. Flight simming, other PC based gaming passions, researching, and writing have filled the hours nicely in that time and continue to do the same. So, why do I need to revisit a hobby I last engaged in back in the 1970's - you may well ask! Well, I blame my children, both of them. About seven years ago, my daughter presented me with an Airfix 1:48 scale plastic model kit as a present for my birthday. Of course, she wasn't sure if I would even like it, but unbeknown t
