Aerosoft Night Environment

Recommended Posts

There are certain times of day when flying sometimes just makes you say WOW one is sunset/sunrise when flying at FL370  the other is when flying over a large city at night with no clouds you feel you can reach out and touch the lights.

So to help the likes of myself to remember such occasions  Aerosoft  has released a pretty natty night lighting program. Currently they have released Belgium and Holland and one can download a free demo of Berlin , so I did,and have to say it is quite similar to the ftx global night lights except these work in photoscenery

I took off for a quick jaunt from Tempelhof and was surprised by the street lighting which was higher than me, silly me it is now a public park so of course it now has street lighting. but it is not bad at all, certainly better than the stock stuff and not expensive either

Thanks for the link, Nigel - the screenshots look quite incredible, don't they?

On a more basic note, here's an idiot's question: if you were flying at night, would you be taking in the sights? Or seriously worrying where you were going?!?

Cheers - Dai.

In honesty Dai?

I was never worried about where i was going and always had time to just sit and gawp, a plane , even small ones, flies itself once it is trimmed up.

If ever you get the chance to fly from your area at night do it!! it will amaze you how pilots identify individual towns at night with only a map, just by their shape

as fpr the big planes they fly themselves , we the pilots have only two uses, 1, as a systems supervisor, the other is to get the plane to and from the runway,

exciting Eh?

Joe I should not imagine for one moment that this will work with global, buy hey get the free demo and give it a try. As nice as it is, I sold off most of my ftx stuff including global as it was not the direction I wanted to go.

Still paying off Christmas, it's at the top of the list for next purchase. :)  I think it will look great at night with Global lighting and let you use the roads and such at night for navigation purposes.

I think this Aerosoft product does the same thing and looks about the same as what I see on my machine now. Good alternative for those without FTXGlobal.

Vectors is the next thing on my list of things to get. Global I have as well as FS Global 2010 for the Mesh detail. it seemed expensive to build up my scenery piecemeal so I have gone for a world view.

It's on my list too John, I think it's a pretty important part of making FSX more accurate worldwide.  This scenery and other addon stuff is getting expensive. :faint:

What does everyone think would be better to do, get FS Global 2010 or wait for openLC?

I went for a long time happy with default FSX, I don't know what has happened to me, I've been bitten by the addon bug. :D

Has anyone got ORBX Global Vectors yet? As this puts in the roads and rivers in detail I wonder how vectors at night compares with this.

I've got it, but I must admit I haven't done any night flying since I installed it.

I'll try to try it out and post a screenshot over the weekend.

As promised here are a few screenshots using ORBX Global Vectors for comparison. All shots are taken around Antwerp, Belgium, using Vector version 1.0, so not the new update that came out last night.

The only editing done is a slight crop, and size reduction.

I may be wandering slightly off subject here, but have to agree with Nigel that there is something almost magical flying over a large city on a clear night - you really can feel that you can reach out and touch those city lights.

The problem with reproducing this on a modern visual system is the limitation of the RGB (red/green blue) system of reproducing colours - take a powerful magnifying glass and look at any light point on a LCD or plasma display, or shadow mask CRT (cathode ray tube) display, that light point will turn into a fuzzy blob.

Ironically, the professional flight simulator night/dusk displays of the 1980's, whilst not able to show show full colour daylight scenes, did produce wonderfull night displays with very sharp, unflickering light points produced by beam penetration crt displays without a shadow mask and vector graphics rather than raster graphics (even when viewed through a theodolite for setting up display geometry) - unfortunately these displays were unable to show the colour blue, the taxiway lights were green & whites always slightly off-white.

Because of the colour limitations of this type of display and the fact that it was difficult to increase their brightness to a level where they could be projected onto a screen, airlines went over to the full colour projected systems of today.

Ray.

It does look good but surely they would interfere with the FTX global lights I use?

there's no problems when Night Environment is used with FTX Global Vector

NE series actually enhances FTX Global and Vector

NE's 3D lights also work over any photoreal, including the ground splash!

and always fully visible at 60Nm radius; regardless of your slider settings

you shoudl give the demo a try

Looks really nice I must say. However, as a user of Photo Scenery for USA & Euroe and given the very limited night flying that I undertake. I am quite happy with the UTX overlays. Each to their own I guess.

I'll buy this for the uk when it comes out. For under a tenner if it encourages my night flying I'll go with that. I'd be interested to see if I can remove some of the lights (if there are some that I know don't actually exist) to make it even more real? K

Hello Kevin; UK will be rendered and released

you will be amazed how nice and easy night flying becomes

it will prob be a difficult task for you to remove individual stray lights

if you find anything that needs adding or removing; im game to make it as real as possible
