brett 2,316
Before I go over to the ORBX forums I wanted to see if someone can answer my question here first. If anyone has Global and Vectors installed, I need help with understanding what happened in my FTXCentral application when I installed FTXVectors. When I originally installed Global, a global icon appeared allowing me to choose it and also tick off boxes for hybrid mode, orbx trees and something else I forget. This allowed me to either choose all the regions I had purchased(hybrid mode) or to select the regions individually. All well and good, worked great for faster loading when not needing all the regions to load when starting a flight in only one region. Those choices existed in the area of Central marked with the number #2 in my image. After I installed FTXVectors two of the FTXGlobal icons have appeared as you can see in #1 in the image above. Clicking on either one only shows the options as shown in the #2 section. Hybid mode no longer appears which causes all regions to load when I start a flight. Before you ask, it does seem as if vectors did install correctly, at least to the point where things do look different in my sim as to roads, railways and bridges. If you notice above, I have North America ticked but when I flew over Scotland for the MEBAR Rally it appears as if the Scotland region is turned on anyway. For the folks with global and vectors installed, is this what you see when you open FTXCentral? Can anyone explain what's going on? Did I miss something after reading the manual over and over? Appreciate anyone that can enlighten me on this.
J G 927
Hi Brett I have Global and vectors installed but no Australian or North American scenery installed, I have England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland and Southern Ireland installed. Its almost 1 am here now, and I am a couple of bottles of good red wine down at the moment (Easter and friends round for food, wine and silly games) but I will have a look at my install tomorrow morning and let you know what I see on FTX Central. Andrew Godden 944
Brett, This hasn't happened to me but I have read about exactly such a situation on the Orbx Forums. I will see if I can find the thread again, but a search of the Orbx Forums should produce a result. If I recall correctly, it's a simple matter of a reinstall. Try reinstalling the latest ORBXLIBS file first. Cheers Andrew
brett 2,316
Thanks Andrew, I'll give it a looksee over at ORBX. At least I know that the situation is in the wind. I just did install the latest library when you last posted it.
brett 2,316
Had the latest library installed but re-downloaded and installed it again anyway. Let the installer choose which Global icon to apply and ran the library but still no joy. I did search the forums over there and found nothing of interest for this problem except the library item. Was surprised at the amount of un-answered/no support threads there in the Vectors section. Will try installing Vectors again, does anyone recommend un-installing first or just try a repair type re-install.
mutley 4,498
Hey Brett, I had a similar thing happen when I installed FTX regions out of order, e.g Australia after Europe. My advice would be to flush the indexes, an option within FTX Global, copy and delete the FTXcentral.exe and re run the latest FTX global update and see what happens. As ever, last resort is to re-install. Bests Joe
MyPC8MyBrain 273
not a fan of ORBX since their Global announcment http://www.simforums.com/forums/ftx-global-and-gex-important-update-on-8-2-2013_topic46632.html you really have to know what your doing there their updates and setup is somthing you have to keep track and their spesific instructions id wait before making any move yet; unless your willing to take the chances of reinstall
ddavid 149
I'm with you on this, Chris. I've got OrbX PNW and Pacific Fjords installed and find them excellent but I won't go global for the reasons mentioned in the SimForums announcement. OrbX products in general are really good - but I do wish they hadn't gone down the route of over-writing the core files, for which there appears to be no alternative to a complete re-install of FSX if you wish to un-install global. But, as the SimForums announcement makes quite clear, you must decide for yourself - you pays your money and you make your choice! @ Brett, I do hope you sort this problem out, Mate, and I apologise for getting onto the soapbox. Cheers - Dai.
MyPC8MyBrain 273
Agreed Dai its a question of making the right informed decision; to each is own really im not dissing ORBX scenery in anyway by my statement above that was my personal preference as well i love their scenery; but i have my personal reserves with Global sorry for veering off topic slightly I thought the information in the external link can provide info to possibly other routes to resolve the issue
brett 2,316
I like FTXGlobal, it has improved the overall look of my sim tenfold. Never had a problem with FTX products until I installed FTXVectors as my original Central application looked and worked fine. I have been lucky so far through two laptops with all kinds of addons so I am going to go to the source (ORBX forums) and hope for the best with this, I was just looking to see if others had this problem or if even is a major problem. Hybrid mode is good for flying from region to region but not if you want rooftops and trees more accurate in regions when unchecked and a single full region checked. Thanks for all your help guys. Soapbox sessions are always welcome Dai.
stu7708 244
Brett. I have all of ORBX-regions installed, as well as Global and Vectors. And my FTX Central looks nothing like that. When I installed the Global Base Package the Default button disappeared and was replace by the Global button that include the option for Hybrid mode, FTX trees and FTX night lights. Nothing of that changed after installing Vectors. So it looks like your installation somehow lost track of the fact that you have the Global base package installed, and since that is a required component for Vectors I assume that is where things are going wrong. Perhaps you should try by re-installing and patching the Base Package and Vectors in that order, and then applying the latest Library. EDIT: One thing that can seriously mess things up with FTX products is if you have the wrong region set in FTX Central when you install something. I've made it a personal rule to always have the Default region, or lately the Global region without Hybrid mode, active when installing unless it specifically says something else in the installer (some of the region patches needs to have that region set when applying the patch). So perhaps that's where something got messed up :END EDIT As for the post in sim-forums it has in parts been made obsolete with the first service pack for FTX Global since that version now includes an un-installer for the global package, and the installer makes a full backup of the core-files that are changed. (Version 1 did this to, but the uninstaller wasn't included in the package so you had to replace them manually). The method of replacing the core textures is also the same when it comes to at least one other global texture pack (FScene) so it's not a "new" way of working when it comes to this type of add-on. The same is also essentially true for REX when it comes to cloud and sky textures. One should also remember that the post on Sim-forums was made by the developer of GEX, a product that competes for customers with FTX Global.
brett 2,316
Great, thanks Micke. I'll give this a whorl and keep my fingers crossed. Note: I also posted over at the FTX forums, (I'm putting my money on you guys though )
brett 2,316
Here's what fixed it, I have good news and odd news. First thing I did was tried installing the newest library as Andrew mentioned earlier, no go. Fella named Doug over at their forums said the same thing, I tried it again a couple of more times and it changed nothing. Well tonight or should I say this morning I gave it another go before getting into the more in-depth suggestions here, expecting the same and bam, it finally worked. Go figure, I must have been stuck in some kind of application limbo and it finally came back to earth. The DefaultFSX icon is gone and I have only one FTXGlobal icon. I re-installed FTXVectors and my Central now shows a Vectors Road Lights option along with the Hybrid Mode and ORBX Trees. Installing it took longer this time which is usually a good sign. I topped it off with another install of the Library and everything looks ok in my Product Report. FTX GLOBAL BASE PACK - Version 1.20 December 2013 FTX GLOBAL VECTOR PACK - Version 1.10 March 2014 FTX AA ORBX LIBRARIES VER 140405 5th April 2014 I gather (and hope) that I am not supposed to have a FTXVectors icon and everything is now seems ok. It's now too late to fly now to check it's in sim look. Tomorrows another day. I'm surprised I never had a problem with Global before this and really only noticed it when installing Vectors brought it to light. None of the previous library updates did anything to fix it either. Thanks for everyone's help and a shout out to the sim gods too! Side Note: As long as I made a copy of my product Report from the FTXCentral,(never knew there was one) I might as well check and make sure all my other stuff includes all updates to by checking their Support Page. Always a good idea to stay on top of things, right?
stu7708 244
Looks like your good to go then Brett.. There should be no Vectors Icon since that is part of the Global Package.
Quantum 3
[EDIT: Sorry, just seen that you tried the below and it didn't work! .... strange, installing the latest Libs should always flush and refresh the FTX Central entries]. The easiest way to fix any problems with 'FTX Central' (including duplicate entries like this) is to install the latest Orbx Libraries. A couple of months ago, JV and team placed an updated for FTX central into the Orbx Libraries installers. So if things get messed up like here (usually happens due to older FTX products being installed after newer FTX products), installing the latest libraries will fix the isue. You can download the latest Orbx Libraries, at the bottom of this page :- https://www.fullterrain.com/support.html (Direct Link:- http://myftx.com/orbxfreeware/FTXORBXLIBS_140405.zip) Hope this helps. brett 2,316
It finally did work Dean, not sure why it took so long though, about four or five times. I have grown accustomed to the oddities of FSX and the way it works sometimes and no longer get surprised or upset. Sort of like a cop that's been on the beat for twenty years. Thanks for popping in to help me out. Plus the links you posted will help those in the future that might need to look this thread up.
