Leg 19 - Biratnagar (VNVT) to Osmany Intl (VGSY)

Recommended Posts

All this cloak and dagger mishegas!  Time to take some of the heat off the baton.  Now, how do I get an American military aircraft into a foreign country...

Dawn, Indian Ocean, somewhere off the coast of Bangladesh

Is that enough runway?

It's always a beautiful sunrise when you're flying

Almost feet dry

Looks like it's going to be a nice day.  Not much cover though.

Did I mention this was a low level insertion/extraction?

Lovely view from the office

I hope the villagers are heavy sleepers.

Maybe the water will deaden the sound a bit

Finally!  Short final for VNVT

Top off the tanks and meet Micke for the hand-off.

After a quick bite and a sitrep from Micke, preflight, check the gas and roll.  Fortunately the weather has cleared since the previous leg.

The foot hills of the Himalayas

Maybe I should rethink this NOE plan...

The terrain doesn't change much in a country that is almost entirely river delta.  After a rather brief and uneventful flight I'm over the runway.

Break turn to downwind

Turning to final.  Man that PAPI is bright!

A smooth touchdown

Holed up just off the airport.  I knew I should have packed the camo netting.  John, come on up to the 2nd floor, first door on the right.

This was a lot of fun, except for the part of trying to land a plane with no tail hook on a carrier.  My MCA needs work.

Add-ons used for this flight:

Aerosoft OV-10 Bronco

REX + Overdrive

SceneryTech Asia Landclass

Ground Environment Extreme Asia/South America

Nicely done Pete, great shots and nice to see the Bronco doing an appearance.. I don't think it's been involved in transporting the baton previously.. :thum:

And yes, those PAPI-lights are darn bright, hope you were wearing sun-glasses  ;)

Great PIREP Pete!  Its great to see another military enthusiast!

I will be with you as soon as I can, I hope to be able to able to pick up the baton in about a week. I cant say much about the delay, but suffice to say I am held up at Edwards Air Force Base at the moment. Get your self booked into an hotel - Mutly's credit card will foot the bill and I will be with you as soon as I can.

I have heard the Hiltown hotel is the best on offer. No not Hilton, the Hiltown, and I will be with as soon as I can.

DAyuM!!! That is quite the panoramic monitor setup you got there! No one is gonna sneak up on your flank with that rig! :D

Liked your flight plan to sneak into a foreign country; "just do it" :thum:

Cheers, enjoy your delay...I mean stay*.

No hurry John.  I understand they grow some excellent tea around here.  That will keep me busy, and probably awake, for quite some time.

And yes, it is a triple monitor setup with bezel correction, making it even slightly wider.  Most of those last shots had the REX weather map up until cropping.  Yay for the GIMP!

Nice one, Pete — and nice shots, too!   :)

About those PAPIs.... It's so long since I set up my three screens using NVidia Surround that TBH I can't remember what I did, but I'm guessing that as a starting point you might want to search the 'net for a halo.bmp that is more suited to a multiscreen setup? Here's an example discussion of the sort of thing I mean: http://www.simforums.com/forums/can-halobmp-be-edited_topic46083.html

Congratulations, and welcome to the ATWC!   :D

Cheers,
